a tumble in the field
Freshly cut hay says the name. Being from the tropics I can't say I've spent much time around hay to remember what it smells like, freshly cut or otherwise. However I have always linked hay to sunshine and happiness, watching movies where lovers tumble about in haystacks and cute kittens and puppies always seem to be found around haystacks in a certain genre of movies. What makes me happy is discovering a new interesting scent with the added bonus of being an olfactory heaven. Opening with a strong leathery scent of clary sage which I've become familiar with in Violette de Fumee, mint that is present but not as sweet as Nuit Etoilee, mixed with something spicy and herbal, the latter identified as Angelica which is fast becoming a favourite note and the former apparently represented by Ivy, a note I'm not that familiar with. Just as I'm wondering where the musk was, musk showed up and literally filled up the airspace with its presence. This isn't a polite Narciso Rodriguez musk either, this is gorgeous dirty musk along the lines of L'air de Rien, being less sweet than the Miller Harris beauty but less in your face animalistic than Musc Koublai Khan. This is what I imagine dryads would smell like! This is what I imagine a roll in the hay would smell like! This is sunshine, nature and no or very little inhibitions! The sillage is a little on the quieter side but not so bad that I have to stick my nose to my skin. Longevity has gone over the four hour mark so far. This goes on the want list. Definitely. I want to smell like a happy, naughty dryad!

Foin Fraîchement Coupé
Opens with a blend of hay, anise and creamy white musk. The scent is very nice, perfectly balanced between herbal/aromatic and powdery/creamy notes. The composition is rather linear and is built on the fluctuating interplay of the notes I mentioned before. The fragrance's charming simplicity however is also its main drawback: I got bored of it rather soon.

A small wonder
A new fragrance which smells strikingly old-fashioned - but in a very good way. This charming scent expresses the perfumer's intense appreciation of the beauty of nature. It's full of gentle warmth in spite of the wild mint in the top-notes. Imagine yourself under a shady tree in spring deeply inhaling the mild air. Aromatic notes are there, but they aren't fierce, you catch a whiff of soothing hay and the earthiness of ivy and clary sage plus a very fine note of white, soft musk, very subtle, a muskiness that Oriza L. Legrand achieves without any effort. Tinges of green (clover) were added to create a fresh but not strident effect. An outdoorsy fragrance, of course, which emanates a sensuous charm below the surface. "Foin f. coupé" is a beautiful scent which appeals to me in its versatility, great on both sexes and suitable wherever you go. No flowers, no aldehydes, no amber, no oudh, no intentions of seduction. Wearing it is like following a distant tune in a springtime forest that calls for you to enter, a beguilingly romantic concept which leaves you with an idea of sensual awareness beyond the harsh world of synthetic mainstream fragrances. A small wonder.

A very clean and "coumarin" portrait of hay: starts off with a soapy herbal vibe but quickly gets sweeter and creamier with an almond-y edge

For almost all the time It smell like aftershave, a good one, but just that, sharp, unbalanced and way too expensive.

This is just Johnson's baby powder. It's nice but not very unique, and certainly not worth the steep price point
