Leather Oud or Liquid Leather God
I can confidently say this fragrance is utterly captivating, expertly fusing the aromas of exotic woods with rich spices and sweet undertones. From the very first spray, you are enveloped in a top note blend of vetiver, French labdanum, birch, sandalwood, and patchouli. These initial scents create a bold, dynamic profile that effortlessly draws attention.
As the fragrance unfolds, the heart notes of cedar, warm amber, clove, and cardamom take center stage, beautifully complementing the earlier woodsy elements. This harmonious mix results in a sophisticated scent that is both masculine and alluring. In the dry down, the base notes of civet, agarwood, leather, and amyris emerge, delivering a deeply sensual and distinctly masculine finish. The leather aspect is prominent, making this fragrance a true homage to masculinity (and it’s definitely not unisex).
Now, I have to admit something that may ruffle the feathers of Tom Ford aficionados: I believe it surpasses Ombré Leather. No joke. No Lie. I feel that Leather Oud embodies what Ombré Leather aspires to be, seamlessly blending the all aforementioned notes. It’s now my favorite go to leather scent, and I feel will perfectly complement my cigars. This fragrance conjures images of black, tough leather intertwined with vetiver, cardamom, and sandalwood in a blend that feels almost miraculous, akin to the harmony of chocolate and peanut butter.
Now, while the bottle design and color don’t exactly wow me, it did manage to grab my attention. Let me clarify: I would have preferred a sleek, dark bottle—perhaps an amber, bourbon, or deep caramel finish with gold accents or even a black cylindrical design with gold trim. The box and green bottle are eye-catching, with gold angular lines on the packaging and the striking green glass capped with gold.
Though the green may seem off-putting and evokes thoughts of a fresh, wet scent rather than warmth and leather, if there were a god of leather, this fragrance is what they would be their sillage.
