Nice patchouli/amber cross.
My first try of the Turkish house of Pekji is Battaniye, a rich patchouli/amber blend, as it is aptly self-described, midway between a patchouli-dominant fragrance and a medium-bodied amber, with earthy- and (as the Luckyscent description notes) a bit of textile-type qualities to it. There’s a spicy/smoky/earthy aspect, with additional notes of vetiver, soot, and musk. It’s fairly dark, and high-performing. Unsurprisingly, fans of both patchouli and amber should be extremely well-served by it. I lean toward amber much more than patchouli, myself, and resins in this fragrance (which include labdanum) are a little smoky while not being animalic yet are still provocative, a good spot to be in.

Battaniye is extrait concentration and, like most of the house, seemingly, is priced at $165 for 50ml. Five of the house’s scents, including Battaniye, are sold via Luckyscent (among other boutiques), and are also available in a discovery set of 2ml spray samples.

Overall, this a fun first impression of this house, and I look forward to trying the others in the discovery set.

An autumnal Patchouli
This fragrance opens with a burst of smoke that almost takes your breath away. Then this smoke disperses in a matter of minutes, and a warm velvety chocolaty patchouli sneaks through the sweet ambery resins. In the base it becomes drier and earthier, gradually transforming into a perfect autumnal patchouli+amber combination with hints of decaying leaves and kind of a brown leather. It is very beautiful, rich and incredibly long lasting.

Pekji / Battaniye
The second of my favorites of this brand. Beautiful herbal, earthy patchouli (with the addition of vetiver) combined with the scent of dusty and fumed earth through slightly sweet labdanum, which beautifully soothes this herbal patchouli making, together with AMBRA, a slightly sweet, creamy and enveloping scent like ... a blanket (yes ... the name battanyie means a blanket) .
Projection, durability and power - phenomenal (12 hours), as is the composition. Unique work.
I highly recommend.

Masters of the Universe and a crucial question
The leaflet makes me shudder when I open the packaging.
Apparently, I bought a bottle of the first batch (350 pieces) of Battaniye in the online store of a small perfumery.
If I follow the statements, this bottling must be around six years old.

I spray on and close my eyes:
A rainy day at 11 degrees.
I burn peat with the window open.
The sheep bleat. Their wet wool dries in the barn. I won't muck out until tomorrow morning. Luckily I made the hay yesterday.
The wooden floorboards in the parlor have warped over the years. The damp soil underneath is partially visible.
The wind howls, I cough dryly. Honeysuckle decoction will help.
Under the clammy, heavy blanket, it slowly gets warm enough to fall asleep. Strangely enough, I dream of Stinkor from Masters of the Universe. He has slain Moss Man. Even as a child, I liked patchouli better than pine needles.
Some things never change.
I wake up. The fire has gone out. The wind carries the scent of damp grass into the house.

I open my eyes.
Everything is as it should be.
Peace, great peace.

The burning mountain of Cirale and the everlasting loves of Koyunbaba
The memory: Cirale/Olympos
At last! The last bend revealed a view of a wide, bare expanse: it was hot, small flames rose from the stone of the mountain and gently but steadily enriched the air with vapors. Soot layer after soot layer was deposited at the outlets of the red tongues and so they gazed out to sea with black irises and flaming pupils in igram-like multitudes. Chimaera is said to have once lived here until Belerophon struck her down.
The burning gases have been creeping out of the stone for thousands of years. They are said to have once served as beacons for the ships of the Phoenicians and Greeks - that's how high they flickered.
From a long stretch of beach, overgrown with ancient, towering pine trees, the stony path wound its way impassably up to the heights. Sheep grazed what they could still find on the ground in the heat of the Turkish summer. Cistus was there too.
The further telling of the scent
The sun sets behind the mountain in a riot of color. It blazes and flames, it licks and glows. Then the scattered clouds flicker brightly one last time, turning dark orange and deep purple. Indigo turns to deep black. Night falls over the land. It is too late to go back.
A man descends. He silently turns a large stone to the side and points to a scorpion in the cone of light from his flashlight. It is too dangerous to spend the night outside, snakes are not far away either, they also seek body heat at night. His gestures are clear, an invitation to follow him. It's safer with him.
The climbing plants on his little stone hut welcome him with countless flowers: garden honeysuckle, deliciously fragrant in the evening.
The night is starry, the planets shine in a line. The wind has shifted and is now blowing from the sea, bringing cooler air. Crickets chirp softly and have replaced the cicadas' cries. Lambs bleat exuberantly as they leap and enjoy their lives until they tire and fall asleep. Wood burns glowing at the campfire, smelling aromatic in the still warm silence. Crackling. Crackling. Sparks flying. The fire gets smaller.
"Kojunbaba", the father of the sheep, as everyone here calls the hermit, picks up his guitar and strikes up a melody. Then it bursts out of him and the mute begins to sing wistfully about his unrequited love: "Dilbera Dersimi", the beauty of Dersim. And he sings of his fulfilled love for "Kara Toprak", the black earth. It is a tough love, he tells how he wrings everything from her with his hands and always struggles for her.
So he spreads his soul out under the starry sky like a blanket, while his sheep snuggle up underneath.
___
All three songs "Koyunbaba", "Dilbera Dersimi" and "Kara Toprak" are passionately played by Julia Schüler and I can't get them out of my mind. When I hear them, I smell "Battaniye".

A slightly smoky, yet spicy dusty earthy-resinous Winter fragrance, slowly softened by its warm and cozy musky base. Unique and challenging!
