Nice patchouli/amber cross.
My first try of the Turkish house of Pekji is Battaniye, a rich patchouli/amber blend, as it is aptly self-described, midway between a patchouli-dominant fragrance and a medium-bodied amber, with earthy- and (as the Luckyscent description notes) a bit of textile-type qualities to it. There’s a spicy/smoky/earthy aspect, with additional notes of vetiver, soot, and musk. It’s fairly dark, and high-performing. Unsurprisingly, fans of both patchouli and amber should be extremely well-served by it. I lean toward amber much more than patchouli, myself, and resins in this fragrance (which include labdanum) are a little smoky while not being animalic yet are still provocative, a good spot to be in.

Battaniye is extrait concentration and, like most of the house, seemingly, is priced at $165 for 50ml. Five of the house’s scents, including Battaniye, are sold via Luckyscent (among other boutiques), and are also available in a discovery set of 2ml spray samples.

Overall, this a fun first impression of this house, and I look forward to trying the others in the discovery set.

An autumnal Patchouli
This fragrance opens with a burst of smoke that almost takes your breath away. Then this smoke disperses in a matter of minutes, and a warm velvety chocolaty patchouli sneaks through the sweet ambery resins. In the base it becomes drier and earthier, gradually transforming into a perfect autumnal patchouli+amber combination with hints of decaying leaves and kind of a brown leather. It is very beautiful, rich and incredibly long lasting.

Pekji / Battaniye
The second of my favorites of this brand. Beautiful herbal, earthy patchouli (with the addition of vetiver) combined with the scent of dusty and fumed earth through slightly sweet labdanum, which beautifully soothes this herbal patchouli making, together with AMBRA, a slightly sweet, creamy and enveloping scent like ... a blanket (yes ... the name battanyie means a blanket) .
Projection, durability and power - phenomenal (12 hours), as is the composition. Unique work.
I highly recommend.

Excavations of Blossoms and Amber Glow in the Earth’s Darkness
When they started digging, nothing indicated what the black sooty earth and the smoldering smoke rising from it would reveal. A routine excavation, they thought. But spade by spade, they became more cautious and eventually completely awestruck as layers of sweetly fine-spiced amber emerged with such delicacy that spaces for emotion and wonder opened up. Dark, medicinal patchouli layers had preserved and concealed white honey blossoms that suddenly bloomed from the depths, so lovingly and brightly. And this amber glow that radiated from the dark, oily, resinous labdanum layers. Again and again, they leaned over the unfolding scene that came from the infinitely ancient earth layers, freed from the earth's embrace after the honey blossoms of love and memory had endured long periods of burial, protected and covered by tender amber and patchouli layers. Thus, the earth had been like a blanket for the buried memories of love, pain, and long-lost things.
-----
A perfume like a blanket (that’s what the Turkish name means), yes, that envelops and embraces me protectively, that offers me “a breather from the elements and a moment of reflection,” as the homepage states, or the opportunity to observe the chaos of life from a sheltered place. A perfume also like infinitely old layers of buried memories of love, loss, and pain. This scent literally consists of several layers that are horizontally stacked. With a light dosage, I perceive smoldering smoke (on top) over fine-spiced amber (beneath) in the opening, before the floral honeysuckle emerges almost from the middle in between. That’s wonderfully done!
Only with a more generous dosage does the very dark, bitter-resinous, almost oily labdanum and earthy patchouli come to the fore for me, combined with a slightly medicinal note and a hint of lanolin (sheep wool). The dark, strong labdanum here is rather less animalic and more resinous, reminding me of MGO's labdanum or Duftkumpels' Labdanum Deluxe. Vetiver supports the smoky-earthy aspect.
Overall, I perceive three dimensions here: (1) dark-strong-intense-oily-resinous, then (2) intimate, familiar, providing a sense of security like a cozy blanket, and at the same time (3) refined, delicately floral, fragile, and emotional.
-----
Battaniye is my first fragrance from Oemer Ipekçi, whose house I have been curious about for a long time. On the homepage, he writes that he had previously “given up the attempt to create a non-redundant amber.” Given the abundance of many (and often beautiful) amber scents, this is very understandable. It’s good that he has still created this multifaceted amber-labdanum scent.
This review is for you, who knows what it means for memories to fade - but that the love associated with them is never erased.

Masters of the Universe and a Gretchen Question
The insert makes me shudder with delight as I open the packaging.
I apparently purchased a bottle from the first batch (350 pieces) of Battaniye in the online shop of a small perfumery.
If I follow the statements, this batch must be around six years old.

I spray it on and close my eyes:
A rainy day at 11 degrees.
I’m burning peat with the window open.
The sheep are bleating. Their wet wool is drying in the barn. I will only clean out the stalls tomorrow morning. Luckily, I made hay yesterday.
The wooden floorboards of the room have warped over the years. The damp earth beneath is partially visible.
The wind howls, I cough dryly. Goat's rue tea will help.
Under the clammy, heavy blanket, it’s slowly warm enough to fall asleep. Strangely, I dream of Stinkor from Masters of the Universe. He has killed Moss Man. Even as a child, I preferred patchouli to pine needles.
Some things never change.
I wake up. The fire has gone out. The wind carries the scent of damp grass into the house.

I open my eyes.
Everything is as it should be.
Silence, great silence.

Rich patchouli, not musty but almost medicinal, resinous, with minimal soot. Perhaps one of the better Pekji.
