The Enigmatic Beauty
I have the great fortune of having received a signed bottle of Bisous Bisous for my birthday.
Excited, I opened the package and had to realize that Roja has also made cuts here. No more beautiful wooden box, but an elaborate cardboard box that closes with a magnet. Nice to look at, but no wood anymore.
The bottle still appears high-quality and is elevated by Roja's hand-signed signature on the back, which adds a touch of elegance. Without the signature, something would be missing.
Now to the most important part, the star in the box. I’m sharing my first impression, based on about four days, usually with around six sprays on different parts of my body.
Let’s start with the positives:
The scent, if at all, only seems a bit chemical in the first ten minutes, although “chemical” is really the wrong word. The first minutes are simply hard to categorize. It was much easier for me when I had the components of the top note in front of me, as the note that could smell chemical is clearly the strong, bitter bergamot. From my perspective, this component does not come across as cheap at all, but rather very potent, so the impression could arise that the note is not particularly natural.
After about 30 minutes, I perceive a gentle cherry tone, very refined but truly extremely elegant. A beautiful sweetness accompanies it. Many describe this component as “cotton candy,” and I must say that the description fits extremely well. I have not experienced this note in such a beautiful and rounded form in any fragrance as I have in Bisous Bisous. Once the cherry recedes, the beautiful vanilla comes to the forefront, always enveloped by a magical cotton candy.
God, I love this transition!
The fragrance alone up to this point is truly something special. It is versatile and, in my view, hard to compare with other scents. For me, the overall picture appears harmonious and above all natural.
Now let’s address the negative aspects:
The longevity on my skin noticeably decreases after about six to seven hours. At that point, it is only perceptible very close to the skin, and after about eight hours, it is just barely detectable. However, if sprayed on clothing, it lasts a good nine to ten hours!
The tiresome topic of sillage with Roja fragrances also accompanies us here. In the first three to four hours, it is definitely still perceptible to those around, albeit only subtly. After five hours, the fragrance unfortunately hardly has any presence, but it is still well noticeable on clothing.
We certainly don’t need to discuss the price. As with almost all Roja fragrances, the performance is not proportional to what one has to pay for it. 495 pounds is truly a statement!
In summary:
The quality of the fragrance is truly unique and I really like it. Even as a man, the scent never comes across as too sweet, but those who only prefer bitter fragrances will definitely not be well served here. Those who can live with the rather moderate and weak sillage will receive a truly beautiful, incomparable, natural fragrance that, if perceived, will certainly lead to one or two compliments. From my perspective, a really good release!
