Rain in the Morning...if only it were raining flowers and shoe polish ;)
Recently, I received a sample of this fragrance through the Mixed Wanderletter (thanks to Jennytammy).
A small spritz on my arm in the early morning. A little "black rain" can be so refreshing - if one understands a hint of a good perfume as a refreshment. (Well, that could actually apply to many here - myself included.)
Immediately, a very successful floral opening follows. I can only perceive the rose faintly, but it is surely part of the little "flowerbed" that is presented here. Chamomile, jasmine, rose, and co. are competing to see who is the most beautiful (and dominant).
After 5 minutes, the leather emerges, dark, almost black - with a slight shoe polish note. This comparison may sound unpleasant at first, but it describes my association with a high-quality shoe polish. The scent of it can indeed be very successful and pleasant.
In the heart note, our little flowerbed continues to float subtly over this note for about one to two hours. As time goes on, the fragrance becomes increasingly sweeter and the leather fades. The base is filled with musk and a hint of orange blossom - in short: unobtrusive, velvety soft, beautiful.
All together, "Black Rain" is a very balanced and harmonious fragrance with a diverse scent progression (at least in the first one to two hours). If it weren't for the leather, which almost always bothers me in fragrances. To all those who have no problem with leather and also enjoy floral perfumes with a soft and sweet base, I wholeheartedly recommend this fragrance. :)
PS: The fragrance reminds me in the heart note of "Fetish" by Neil Morris Fragrances due to this leather-flower-sweetness combination, albeit in a significantly muted version with less leather and more dominant flowers. Or am I already suffering from a fragrance delusion? Many common notes are not found in the pyramid...
