very calmly energizing
I've never smelled the Shiseido Relaxing Fragrance, so perhaps that's why I'm confused with this one. However, this pleasant aniseed and white musk scent is incredibly calm and serene. The only other person I know who wears this is my dentist, a movie-star gorgeous dark-haired and very professional Bosnian immigrant who suits it perfectly. (Actually, it suits her so much more than me that I stopped wearing it for a time.) The anise is just enough to catch someone's interest, but no one could possibly find this unpleasant or controversial.

I don't know of any fragrances from US-based companies that feature anise, although it is prominent in Goutal's Mandragore and in several of the Lolita Lempickas. The only US-made products I know of with anise are some natural toothpastes. This makes me very curious to know what connotations anise has in other countries, and whether it is seen as invigorating generally, the same way that mint is in the US.

Whoever wants to relax should reach for......
Some time ago, a bottle of Energizing Fragrance found its way to me. The ingredient star anise piqued my curiosity, as the brand Shiseido had unfortunately left a rather negative impression on me due to Zen. A few years ago, I spontaneously bought Zen after a spritz, but I still find that scent very intense and it guarantees headaches. Perhaps it's the hyacinth that plagues me here. So, it was quickly gifted away. Instead, we have a representative in the office who frequently delights us with an overdose of Zen. Even hours after her visit, the scent lingers in the hallways and in the office, with windows being opened in many rooms. But Energizing Fragrance is completely different, a feel-good scent, a kind of calming aromatherapy.

In the scent development, I primarily perceive green herbs and star anise, but after about 3 to 4 hours, a soft, warm musk note emerges. Flowers are also present, but for me, only in the background, without me being able to name a main character. In my notes from the first test, I wrote: muted freshness, spicy, herbal, dark green, ANISE, maybe caraway? Unsweetened, calming, beautiful, should I buy?

I can't add much more to my perceptions; Energizing Fragrance is a scent for both genders, although it is labeled as a women's fragrance. The sillage is elegantly restrained, and the longevity is in the medium range for me. This scent is wearable year-round, the bottle is unusual, but it feels good in the hand and stands out with its styling. I actually find the name not very fitting; the scent relaxes me. But wait, that actually fits, without relaxation, one cannot recharge.

And just now, I bought a bottle of Energizing Fragrance; I suddenly felt the worry that it might no longer be produced, as I see and smell it nowhere. Those who like Kormann's Kätzchen or Assenzio by L’Erbolario might also enjoy Energizing Fragrance.

I just read Turandot's comment on the scent and have to smile; I feel similarly about Zen.

What bothers me about this fragrance?
I like clove and pepper, I like anise, heliotrope, iris, jasmine, as well as lily of the valley and rose. I love the scent of woods, and when it comes to musk, I am quite nose-blind, so it can't be that.

So why does this fragrance cause me physical discomfort? It starts with headaches, leads to feelings of dizziness, and almost borders on nausea. Yet the scent is supposed to provide energy.

The worst experience I had was at a Shiseido care seminar. After lunch, the trainer sprayed Energizing Fragrance so we could better overcome the afternoon slump. I can hardly remember the rest of the training, and only politeness kept me from simply standing up and going home.

What bothers me about this fragrance??

a somewhat prickly fellow
After having such good experiences with Shiseido's "Relaxing Fragrance" and feeling extremely comfortable, the question of whether I wanted "Energizing Fragrance" or not didn't arise at all.
So I bought not only the scent but also a bit of "surrounding" here.

In contrast to the calming shape and color of the bottle of "Relaxing Fragrance," those of "Energizing Fragrance" clearly show that this is a completely different caliber of fragrance.
The strong orange-brown-red and the rounded shape leave no doubt that pure energy has been captured here.

This fragrance opens quite robustly green, spicy, and a bit piercing.
I always enjoy the scent of clove; it is a dear friend from my kitchen.
But when I read here: "black pepper," I now know what always slightly stung my nose back then - my pepper allergy.
For the next prick is then the star anise; it was later banished from my kitchen due to "irreconcilable differences."
Because of these two spices, I am of course wide awake: this lively brother has nothing of the lightly floating harmony of "Relaxing Fragrance."
Well, it doesn't have to; its task is different, and it fulfills it well.
The vanilla-like warmth of the deep violet heliotrope soothes my somewhat overly agitated senses.
Iris and jasmine, these two sisters in spirit, who always seem to have a bit of a quarrel about who plays the "first fiddle," are elegantly outshone here by the little white lily of the valley.
They can be felt in their fragrant fullness but must step back into the second row right after their appearance. This stage does not belong to them.
The rose also aligns itself more with the fragrance progression rather than playing out its dominance.
All in all, these flowers do very well for the scratchy opening of this fragrance creation.
As with most Asians, woody notes must not be missing here either. It is pleasantly light wood that generously spreads its aroma and grounds nicely.
The whole very lively, felt spiral movement of "Energizing Fragrance" calms down a bit because of this and gives me some time to catch my breath.
A generous but not overly lavish dose of musk rounds off the overall picture harmoniously.

"Energizing Fragrance" possesses a lot of very positive energy.
It invigorates and lives up to its name. But I remember that I did not repurchase the first series because something bothered me about it.
The pyramid here shows that it was black pepper and star anise; these two probably scratched a bit too much at my allergies.

Since my heart belonged to Clarins' "Eau Dynamisante" anyway and still does, it was not difficult for me to set "Relaxing Fragrance" aside personally.
I am sure that this truly interesting fragrance composition still has many friends today and would have many more if it were still produced.
But we probably just didn't harmonize completely. This is only a personal experience and by no means a value judgment.

Red Bull to Spray?
On some days, you know early in the morning that you will use more energy than you actually have available.
Then any help is welcome - personal, material, and gladly also "fragrance-related."
For days like this, many years ago, I got "Energizing Fragrance" - certainly in the hope of finding something helpful, as belief can move mountains, but also because I liked the scent and nothing better came to my nose that day in the perfumery, ;-).

Whether "Energizing Fragrance" is actually a kind of "Red Bull to spray" I still cannot say after all these years, but one thing can be stated:
With this fragrance, I have never felt completely out of place, I didn’t get headaches, no stomach cramps, and I wasn't given the cold shoulder by my partner.
In this respect, it can be concluded: Even if "Energizing Fragrance" should not have any empowering effect on me, Shiseido certainly did not cause any harm with it.

They are listed nowhere, and yet I believe I can sniff out citrus notes from the spray to the drydown, of which I am not sure whether to assign them to lime or grapefruit.
For me, they are present, but not overly dominant like in a cologne - they immediately blend with delicate, light flowers, especially lily of the valley, and a hint of green, refined with a creamy undertone.
This mix indeed feels very refreshing and reminds me of a young spring morning, whose cool, clear air clears the head and dispels dark thoughts.
I never expected much more and did not receive it, so I am not a little surprised to read about the pyramid of spices and woods - wherever they may be lurking, they are not on my skin.
And I am not even angry about that...

Clean, warm & rather uncomplicated peppery floral musk. This strikes the nose as a minimal and transparent scent, smells very 1990s.

Fantastic bottle design. I wore it a lot when I was tired. I remember it being very light and having a citrus opening, possibly grapefruit.

It doesn't give me energy. Way too polished, cosmetic, floral, slightly synthetic.
More like a body spray. It's fine, but not a must-have for me.

Fresh, clean, powdered, and creamy meet delicate flowers + bitter, green herbs. Pleasantly relaxed despite the synthetic undertone.
