Kindness

„A man wakes up to the sound of rain
From a dream about his lovers
Who pass through his room
They brush lightly by, these lovers
They pass. Never touching
These passing lovers move through his room
The man is awake now
He can't get to sleep again
So he repeats these words
Over and over again:
Bravery. Kindness. Clarity
Honesty. Compassion. Generosity
Bravery. Honesty. Dignity
Clarity. Kindness. Compassion“

This song lyric and the fascinating music of the piece “Forgetting” by Philip Glass (1986) have always touched me deeply. And so I had to think of this work of art with several fragrances. Also with Ever Bloom Ginza Flower, because Ever Bloom Ginza Flower is for me the epitome of kindness - Kindness.

This fragrance is so friendly that I have worn it almost daily in the few weeks since I got it. First to get to know it. It brought a smile to my face. There is nothing strenuous or edgy, nothing snappy, biting, stinky, or challenging - there is simply kindness. Now one might think that this could be a bit boring, but no, it is just refreshing to go to work with a smile and to know that this is a fragrance that might also make others smile. And often enough I have reapplied it in the evening after work - after searching for a fragrance to unwind from a tiring day. My gaze lingered on Ever Bloom Ginza Flower and the decision was made.

What makes this fragrance so exceptionally friendly? I believe the essential factor is the soft, mild, powdery-floral scent of cyclamen. I always really like this note in many other fragrances as well. Here it is woven with other slightly sweet flowers in the background, which I cannot identify as orange blossom, lotus, and certainly not gardenia. I often find gardenia scent somewhat depressingly sluggish, while lotus can sometimes smell aquatic and musty. I notice none of that here. Perhaps it is a different gardenia scent, a different lotus scent. It is likely the orange blossom that contributes a slight, bright, but also gentle touch of freshness. Perhaps a lotus scent prevents the fragrance from becoming too powdery-dry. I notice no patchouli, but that shouldn't mean much to me. I love patchouli very much and it is found in many of my fragrances. Surely this is the note I am most adapted to, so that I might not perceive it in small amounts anymore.
So Ever Bloom Ginza Flower remains for me a cyclamen scent on the exceptionally gentle background of some reserved flowers, only minimally sweet, only slightly fresh, yet bright and soft. Although it is powdery, it is not dry. Only the next day, when the flowers have faded, do I smell very clearly musk on my clothing. Although the type of musk is okay for me, this is the only downside of Ever Bloom Ginza Flower. Others, however, might certainly enjoy the musk note. For me, it just means that I do not want to wear the clothing for a second day. Not a big deal, the essential part, namely the dreamy cyclamens, are gone on day two along with the other flowers anyway.

Kindness has faded.

But like in the song, I can repeat the words again and again. A new day comes and I can choose kindness once more..

Easter Stroll
I really enjoy wearing Ever Bloom, so I immediately fished the red Ginza out of the sea of bottles at the flea market.

And it envelops me with a full floral scent - airy yet with a distinct bitterness.
Could it be the cyclamen that subtly joins the mix?
Amber is lightly sweet, and the patchouli provides a nice dark counterbalance.
Very special.
But then a similarly bitter fruitiness joins in - but only as a transparent veil.

The floral notes remind me of the original, but then Ginza takes its own path - and does so very charmingly and exclusively.

I haven't smelled something so distinctive - without being quirky - in a long time.

An unusual mainstream fragrance - if one wants to use that vague term at all.

Today, on a sunny spring day, when you can finally take off the heavy jacket and want to stroll towards the Easter celebration, it would be the perfect companion.

On my next visit to the flea market, it will join my collection.

The Mah-Jongg Game
"Ever Bloom - Ginza Flower" reminds me of a particularly eventful time in my youth when everything got quite chaotic.
The time between my 12th and 17th birthdays was mostly spent among a Chinese family that quickly became an extension of my own family. The 3 sons were like big brothers to me, although I had quite a crush on the youngest for a long time.
Just as the cliché goes, the parents owned a lovely little Chinese restaurant. The father cooked, the mother mostly prepared drinks behind the counter, packaged takeout meals, and did the dishes, while the 3 sons took turns as waiters.
So we spent evening after evening in the restaurant. There was always a lot to see, plenty to chat about, and in case of doubt, always a reserve bottle of the exceptionally delicious pink lychee sparkling wine, not to mention the excellent food.
Late at night, when the last guests had finally left the place, it usually didn't take long for a bunch of Chinese friends and relatives of "my" Chinese family to arrive. What felt like a hundred bowls filled with various non-European delicacies were brought from the kitchen to a large communal table, where everyone had already gathered, and soon dozens of chopsticks were clattering as they swiftly glided into the many large and small bowls to pick out some of the many treats. Conversations in German, Mandarin, and Cantonese buzzed like a chant over all the chopstick clattering and slurping.
After the big meal, the colorful group split into three. The gentlemen gathered for a Chinese card game, while the ladies eagerly sorted and set up their Mah-Jongg tiles... We younger ones usually played Skat or Rummy at a separate table, but without stakes, which was simply unthinkable at the other two tables, where would the incentive and fun be?!
I remember well how a thoroughly floral-sweet, slightly powdery-creamy scent mist wafted over to us from the Mah-Jongg game. The scents of the individual ladies were different, yet all fundamentally quite similar, so that when mixed, they created a harmonious overall fragrance experience.

"Ever Bloom - Ginza Flower" is of Japanese origin, but would have fit wonderfully into the Chinese ladies' circle and would not have stood out at all. It starts off very strongly sweet and floral, with orange blossom and white amber lending an almost palpable creaminess, and it remains that way for many hours until at some point a hint of patchouli mixed with muscenone provides a slightly powdery touch, warming everything up a bit.

Overall, a lovely fragrance, definitely suitable for any season, but personally, it doesn't really suit me and would certainly be a guarantee for headaches if over-applied.
But should I ever be invited to a Mah-Jongg game, I will wear it!

Lush flower meadow that becomes sweet and powdery over time, but unfortunately ends a bit dull. Unusual, erotic-feminine, yet spring-like.

Subtly alluring, bright polished gardenia, light wood, and a distinct orange blossom. Slightly spicy. The rest is undefinable.

Very well-groomed, creamy, floral, and slightly powdery. I don't like overly floral scents, but this one isn't; it could also be a high-quality body lotion.

Very pleasant, fresh-sweet floral, with a slight bitter edge from the cyclamen. Anything but boring. Always fits.
