Not only for forest rangers
In the 90s this fragrance was omnipresent - and it never bothered me.

Of course, the forest fraction in my haze preferred to wear this woody scent, because it also suits nature boys well.

The essential oils of the pine have an invigorating effect and clear the head and nose.
Beside the forest lust the Pino spreads, it works also well against sniffles.

The citric start is dimmed by calm lavender - and the spices remind me of walks through the deep, deep pine.
Although they were cozy "walks", these area inspections were not, because the forester makes forest condition surveys off the beaten track
I was introduced to the forest in its original wild form - and that is not for prudes.
Nevertheless, I accepted scratches and falls, because I felt something like a pioneering spirit within me - accompanied by resinous woody aromas.

The forest is a universe of its own that needs to be protected and understood.

It is also home to many species of animals - for which we must be grateful to him.
He's also our green lung.

Pino gives me all these memories and thoughts - which makes this fragrance always topical and timeless.

here not the Edition Original but Classico, which I think is a bit better.
There are days when I can't and won't smell of anything special, but rather need a basic natural refreshment, also for the head. And since I also like Franzbrantwein very much, I naturally like Pino. Lemon, thyme, camphor and a hint of musk and peat, all this natural and robust. It was, but it's just enough for those days

A forest in my heart...
The place I live belongs to a continental climate zone which means harsh winters and sizzling summers. This fact has led me to believe that most fragrances are shining their best self either in cold or heat, suffering a considerable reduction of developing their olfactory merits when they are worn in their less effective temperature spectrum.

That never was the case with Pino Silvestre because it was always a breath of fresh forest air, incarnated by either the howling arctic winds of Scandinavia or the gentle summer breeze of the Mediterranean. The etymology of Scandinavia is yet to be decided, but since "Mediterranean" means the center of the world, then Pino Silvestre represents this term way better than any other male fragrance would ever do. Emitting its green waves from Italy, the very heart of the Mediterranean, Pino Silvestre is global, epic and staggering.

Thinking that calling it the best male scent ever made would be sort of an overstatement, I'll just say that having a place in the ten best male fragrances ever would be no overstatement at all. I have never ever confused it with any other fragrance and I believe it's so classic that it's classicality itself. Something like the olfactory equivalent of Jules Verne and Alexander Pushkin, since it's wildly adventurous and plain equitable altogether. Or something like being simultaneously complacent and not complacent or romantic and not romantic, if you like. How many fragrances would not be laughed at by making such claims, even if they are around for six decades?
And speaking of straightforward merits, who said that a fragrance has to cost a fortune to be stunning? Where I live you can have 750ml of Brut, 300ml of Tabac and 350ml of Agua Brava for 100€. Or a whole bucketful of shiny green pine cones named Pino Silvestre.

Although it was launched some 20 years later, I believe it was Europe's answer to the other iconic men's fragrance coming from the western shore. Pino Silvestre's archenemy could be no other than the most popular masculine fragrance ever made till then. In other words, Old Spice. But since they belonged to two entirely different genres, instead of a legendary battle we were left with yet another olfactory masterpiece instead.
I've heard its bottle being called tacky many times, but if I had to call it something too, then "honest" would be the word. What you see is what you get, simple as that. You buy a fragrance in a green pine cone, right? What would you expect yourself to smell like other than a pine forest?
Its biggest advantage however is its aptidude of reassuring you that everything is going to be just fine. That even if the whole world has come to your doorstep, brandishing pitchforks and torches while demanding your ostracism from their modernity land, there's still a sheltering forest to hide and prepare your retaliation. Pine cones can be surely used as a last resort weapon after all, especially when unopened. Just like the ones after which Pino Silvestre's iconic bottle was made.

I don't believe there's more than a handful of European men over forty who have never used Pino Silvestre at some point. And many of them are still proudly using it, no matter how hard fragrance evolution tries to lure them away. I believe it has a very certain association with olfactory childhood memories, and many of us are extremely stubborn when it comes to parting from them. And while most of us live in cities, surrounded by a passel of artificial smells, some of us still have a soothing pine forest forever rooted in the very centre of our hearts' geography. And what is a scent without a heartbeat throbbing it?...

A Classic Green That Still Smells Good But Has Lost A Step...
Pino Silvestre opens with a rugged blend of bergamot, lavender and maybe just a touch of anise before transitioning to its primary heart note of spruce-like pine with the lavender remaining in a supporting role, coupling with cedar emerging from the base. The pine and lavender finally recede leaving the cedar to take center stage in the final base supported by a synthetic smelling mossy musk. Projection and longevity are both below average.

Pino Silvestre is a nice woody pine scent that almost acts as an eau de cologne in its limited strength and longevity. The bottle comes in a 4.2 oz size, and my guess is you will be using a lot more of it than you might think due to needing extra sprays to begin with and multiple reapplications throughout the day. It is somewhat unrefined, quite invigorating and moderately synthetic at times, but it evokes the spirit of the great outdoors and its forests to very good effect. The unrefined cedar and pine tandem is not the kind of scent I would want to wear daily and it even seems to irritate my eyes slightly, but the fragrance is an exceptional value at the $15 or less it is selling for online currently and merits a mild recommendation outright, price aside. Pino Sylvestre earns a "good" 3 stars out of 5 outright for the scent, but much higher in the value department.

Sometimes it can be a suppository...
for general well-being.
Half a century is slowly creeping up on me and so I grew up with fragrances that are no longer available or familiar. This green pine cone was a recurring feature in our bathroom cabinet around the 80s, with Aramis Devin EDT next to it for company.
During my morning dental hygiene, which was often carried out side by side due to time constraints, I often got a little of the Pino's remaining fragrance dust from my 190cm height difference to my 190cm father. Back then, I was already a fan of this particular forest fragrance and it burned itself into my olfactory soul for decades.
As I didn't have much to look for in the perfume world for a long time and things changed in my family, the fragrance was very much in the back of my mind. By chance while browsing, I became aware of this fragrance again on Notino and despite the hint that it was no longer like it was decades ago, I had to get it for the really small money..for old times' sake. What can I say, yes it still has that 80s vibe, it's a bit different, a bit stronger I think, but it's something very own and unique, it has its own DNA where you could even use the word niche after shave.

Pine, thyme, juniper berries and pretty much every herb, grass or plant found in an alpine forest has been used here. Pungent, harsh green.

Smells intensely natural, as if made with a mixture of essential oils. Personally, not my thing.
Also very linear with poor performance.

Pine tree forest bliss. Linear but natural smelling and uplifting. One word suits here. The Greek word NOSTALGIA.

A disappointment, possibly reformulated. Very natural pine smell. But it is plain boring and the sillage/longevity is below par.
