Summer Freshness To Go
White Musk Eau de Parfum was the scent of my city friend during my teenage years, and I was always a bit envious. My friend read Brigitte Young Miss, I read Mädchen. My friend had The Body Shop, I had Schlecker. The Body Shop had something so adult, sophisticated, and cosmopolitan about it back in the early 00s. Of course, there was no branch in my small town, online shopping was still in its infancy, and the coveted scent remained an undefined longing. My friend read Brigitte Young Miss, I read Mädchen. My friend had The Body Shop, I had Schlecker.
Times change: The big city is now just a tram ride away, but The Body Shop is closed, and whether the brand will even exist anymore is written in the stars, and I stumble upon the small 15 ml bottles in the bottom shelf of the TK Maxx perfume section. Not even protected in oversized plastic boxes from curious noses! I take the scent with me untested, for nostalgia's sake, even though I am a bit skeptical about what "Radical" is supposed to mean.
The scent is not nostalgic. Rather quite modern, and I particularly like that: clear lines, kept rather minimalist, unisex, and simply good. I don't detect basil, but a green, slightly woody vetiver. Alongside it is a bitter-citrusy petitgrain. I often rub against any bitter orange components; they often prick my nose, but here I can enjoy petitgrain and co. beautifully, as it loses its scratchiness alongside the radiance of the vetiver and is also cushioned by the musk, which comes across creamy light and softens the green notes.
A summer rain for the handbag, a go-to scent that surely won't annoy anyone. The longevity is surprisingly good; a room-filling projection is not something a scent of this category needs to achieve. And that for five euros in the discount shelf!
