Chypre-bargain

Whoever created "Tristano Onofri Femme" back in the 1980's came amazingly close to capturing the spirit of "Miss Balmain" on a less sophisticated "drugstore level". This fragrance is a brilliant alternative to more outspoken bitter chypres. It features oakmoss, labdanum and a hint of patchouli in the drydown and something very piquant which smells a bit leathery to me. "Tristano Onofri Femme" (now available in a new bottle) appeals to women and men who like their fragrances green, bitter and elegant. The green chypre notes are not as carefully balanced as in other far more expensive fragrances, but if you are looking for a great everyday "chypre-bargain", give "Tristano Onofri Femme" a try. (approx. 10 Euros/100 ml).

A Good Friend

I am sure many Parfumo members will now think: Oh yes, I had that one too. Tristano Onofri was almost like a signature scent for me in the 90s. This was not only because I liked it, but also significantly due to the moderate price. And for this price category, Tristano Onofri was or is(?) an interesting fragrance with high recognition value, good longevity, and I will take a look in the discount section of department stores in the future to see if I can find it again. I already had a reunion with a mini from the www.

The extraordinary, floral-spicy top note with basil and nutmeg immediately spreads a Mediterranean atmosphere, without, however, evoking associations of vacation, sun, and beach through too many citrus notes. This cozy aroma is unmistakable and remains recognizable even when the beautiful heart note lets its flowers bloom. Now the perfume becomes feminine-elegant but with a little wink. And not to be overlooked, the base also plays an important role, reminiscent of Chypre times but in a soft and pleasant way.

Tristano Onofri was like a good friend to me, someone I could always rely on. No matter the occasion, the mood, or the season, I always felt comfortable in its company.

Today I finally decided to let Tristano Onofri move back in with me, especially since it is really available for little money. Yes, it is significantly reduced, but I wear it "in memory" of the original. And that is still recognizable. However, I am now bothered by a soapy note that actually does not fit this fragrance.

Clearly a Chypre. With Sandpaper Aesthetics.

Alongside the "new" Tristano Onofri from Kaufhof, I also own a miniature of the original. The scent starts herbal. Spicy and citrusy. For the moment, Tristano is content with this delicate opening, only to surprise with the iris, followed by a fine hint of rose and jasmine. Somehow, I feel like I’m in a garden on a cool summer morning when the air is still damp. A waking from a soothing sleep, not fixated on the coming everyday life. The scent needs, like everything, its time. Time to dream. But then something happens. An earthy impression of patchouli comes in through a "back door" and surrounds a loose moss cushion that seems to lie deep in the grass. Waiting to be discovered, to be touched with fingertips and felt. Soft and green. But what can sometimes be more surprising than a scent, a perfume? Individual sensory impressions create wonder! The prominent softness hides deep within a kind of "sandpaper," one with very fine grain that imparts a subtle "scratchiness" to the base of "Tristano Onofri Femme." And right on the very surface, the floating lightness of the entrance and the "cool" flowers of the heart note. Like an echo. Now I recognize the Chypre in this scent. The entire composition gradually becomes deeper and truly moss-soft. The sandpaper has done its duty. By the way, the "old Tristano" reminds me in a way of the vintage "Miss Dior" with its "Yatagan"-like qualities. Three different scents. A core association?? Perfumes sometimes take strange paths. The "new" Tristano bears only a distant resemblance to the one described here, but its scent is, all in all, good in its own way. More to come....

I was out shopping today and actually wanted to sniff MCM1900 - but couldn't find it anywhere. At Kaufhof, my eyes checked the offers for hopefully something familiar... nothing... but I happily remembered the fresh Tristano (used in 2002) - "Do you have that?" "No, but we have this here," says the saleswoman! ... yes, and how is it? "Powdery, a pearl necklace scent," say the customers. (No tester available) Can we spray this on, please? From the color, it can't be heavy! ... wave, wave... yes, I like it... it also has something of the "other"... "Do you think so?" I paid... home... I'm curious about what it says here... - I'm very happy that I knew more than the staff. Aha... so new bottle and a little changed. But for us, Grandma, sister, and me, Tosca smells good too.

I Loved It

... and in the end bought it at the department store for 10 euros. So many people asked me about my extraordinary scent.

And then something terrible happened. This fragrance was no longer available. But then -yay- it was back again. Only in a different design. I bought it immediately and the disappointment was great. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is now different and now it smells like cheap aftershave. Such a shame! The stuff was really elegant!
