Dated yes, but far nicer than the new Chloe
It was nice to traipse back in time to this 1975 release, which has now been replaced by a new Chloe, which to my nose is a predictable soapy rose fragrance.

The old Chloe is all about big florals, aldehydes and a touch of spice. It's concentrated and extremely old-fashioned, yet surprisingly enjoyable. I find many bottles of Chloe being sold in discount fragrance stores these days for next to nothing, which is a bit of a shame seeming that the new Chloe bears such a big price tag. I much prefer the old version over the new.

Chloe (1975) exudes more character and warmth. Dusty, old-fashioned tuberose, lilac and orange blossom take me straight back to a bygone era in the top notes. In the heart, a somewhat luxurious spiciness and coziness takes over, enveloping you in a cloud of richness.

Even though, in my early 20's, the new Chloe should be more my style, as it is for my friends, the original Chloe sits better on my skin. Dated, yes it most certainly is, but this is a classic in more ways than one.

Chloe has the tendency to be a sillage monster, so a light application is necessary. I don't know for how long Chloe will grace our stores, but I'm hoping it will stick around for at least a few more years.

Worthy purchase ... in vintage bottle
This fragrance demands a pretty dress, a classic handbag, and kitten heels. Makes me feel like a lady on those rare occasions when I want to be one. I am NOT a flower girl, and classic chypres drive me batty. But Chloe is so well-done, so well-executed that I can put that all aside. It's lovely. After recently sampling a number of classic florals, including 24 Faubourg & Fracas, vintage Chloe was the fragrance that I decided to add to my collection.

Chloe is worth getting if you can find a sufficiently old bottle in good condition on fleabay or at a resale shop. Look for Chloe by Parfums Lagerfeld, Paris. I have a 50ml EdT in a frosted glass bottle with a silver cap. The box is labeled "spray naturel vaporisateur" with an alcohol content of 82%, made in France. The "aorta" looking bottle is the parfum. The clear bottle is also EdT & comes in 60ml, 120ml & 240ml.

The newer bottles of the original Chloe can safely be passed up. A vintage bottle stored in box is the only way to go.

The opposite of low-key
Chloé is a loud, cheerful and brilliant fragrance that draws attention: Definitely not for days when you want to melt inconspicuously into the background. Chloé is intense, warm, soft, sensual and very flowery, powdery and musky in the drydown. Be careful with the dosage, a little goes a long way! The fragrance is strong, distinctive with a pronounced sillage, and it becomes easily overwhelming if over-applied, causing sensitive people to pull open the windows. But when the fragrance matches your skin chemistry and you don't overdo it, Chloé really is a wonderful and ultra-feminine fragrance!
