Too cloying for me

I had originally written a statement about it but felt I needed to explain a little more.

Divine is an exotic/marine perfume. For me, no meringue nor white flowers but a very strong smell of coconut and pineapple surrounded by a salty/sea breeze. What strikes me as odd is that it's undeniably salty but also sweet and in a way that I find very cloying.

To be completely honest, I should point out that I usually don't like sea/marine smells even if sometimes they can suit me. But Divine... I just can't stand it. Too salty but also too sugary, I don't know... It's a mess that's not very pleasant to my nose.

On the other hand, I really love the bottle.

Elegant and playful saint tropez vibe

I was able to get my hands on a bottle of Gaultier Divine just a few weeks ago and I love it! One of the few perfumes I blindly bought and I couldn't have chosen better. It reminds me of my summers spent in Saint Tropez and on the southern coast of France. Tropical fruit, vanilla and sea breeze. I find it elegant and playful at the same time. A modern and refined perfume. Not for everyone. In Italy it is difficult to find, mine comes from Germany, but I am happy with it, because I love it so much that I would like to be the only one to wear it. I hope it never becomes too widespread.

Polarizing scent, but she’s beautiful to me!

First off, a few notes are missing for this one. Here is the full note list for this fragrance taken from the Harrods website:

Base notes: Meringue, Patchouli, Musk
Middle notes: Lily, Jasmine, Ylang-ylang
Top notes: Calypsone, Pink berry, Bergamot

Second off, from first sniff, I knew I’d like this as I love white florals. Every JPG I’ve tried has been a HIT for me, and this one is no different! Divine is a sweet and salty white floral scent that doesn’t smell anything like the Fleur Terrible flanker. This has a noticeable marine note and while it’s very floral, the meringue note sweetens it the overall scent profile up quite a bit. It has that JPG DNA running through it, but the overall vibe actually reminds me of a Mugler fragrance, especially with the jasmine and patchouli notes in there. It’s so beautiful!!

The sillage and longevity on this one are very good! The one small spray I did on the back of my hand with projecting with every movement of mine and I’m very impressed with it! Most JPG frags have great longevity as well, so I expect the same from this one! While the scent definitely gives a summer vibe, I think this would be appropriate to wear year round, day or night. Don’t let the bad ratings or bad reviews scare you! This is a beautiful scent, especially if you’re a big fan of sweet white florals. Quentin Bisch has done it again!

Did the seabreeze blow away the other notes?

I was so curious for this. Lily and meringue with a touch of salt sounds gorgeous and quite original to me. I mean a sweet, summery floral that doesn't rely on the usual jasmine, tuberose or tropical, sunscreen-esque flowers? Count me in!

But as we all know, high expansions can lead to disappointment.
I don't get a very realistic lily here, it's the usual clean white floral mishmash with a fruity touch. Not bad, but not great. The meringue is a bit more noticeable, it has that airy kind of sweetness that most other gourmand notes don't have. I'm not sure if I would have identified it if I hadn't known it was supposed to be there though.
Instead of lily and meringue, the seabreeze and salt notes take over the scent. It's very aquatic, ozonic and quite harsh to my nose. I'm not a huge fan of aquatic notes, they can work for me when they're really soft and dewy, but here I find them quite bracing and unnatural. I really didn't expect them to be so strong that they basically smother the other notes.

For my personal taste, Divine isn't the worst thing I ever smelled, but it leans a little unpleasant.
I would only recommend this to people who like a stiff salty seebreeze in their sweet florals. In my opinion it's quite atypical for JPG, most of their perfumes are warmer, more feminine and don't have this spikiness.

divinely surprised

Sillage and scent stayed strong after 3+ hours, but were almost gone by 5. The synthetic-ness of calypsone isn't my ideal - a little sharp for me as a top note, but I like it in small doses. I wish there was a tad less of that, but everything else is really gorgeously blended. I initially thought this perfume smelled like airport perfume areas, as the opening is kind of generic and strong, and could be overwhelming if you spray more than 1-2 times and have a sensitive nose. However, the heart and base notes are just amazing! I loved catching whiffs of myself throughout the day. I think I'll love this even more in the summertime, and would like having a travel size for the days I want the aquatic version of a classic fruity-floral. For me, this is more likeable than Prada Paradoxe Intense, tied with Donna Born in Roma (in my fragrance mind, Divine is like an aquatuc DBIR), and just shy of Irresistible Givenchy.
