A Very Short Mini Vacation
Mimosas are my vacation flowers: From the cold gray German February to the sunshine of the Côte d'Azur. Sitting on the balcony without a jacket and looking out at the sea. And in the gardens, the mimosas bloom; thick, vibrant clusters of flowers, bright yellow washing away the traces of winter. And despite all their strength, they have this unique ability to curl up their leaves and retreat when uninvited guests can't keep their fingers to themselves.
The mimosa scents that came under my nose during my last vacation were all too sweet, kitschy, and a bit old-fashioned. The Zara mimosa is quite different. It is not very exotic, but fresh and creamy, bright and light, like a gentle cool summer rain over a green meadow. It is clean and straightforward, with a light sweetness occasionally dabbing into the fresh breeze, making the freshness very delicate.
Unfortunately, it is indeed very mimosa-like: Once you give it a little nudge, it becomes invisible. The sillage is minimal, which suits the fragrance, but the fact that it disappears after such a short time is quite a shame, regardless of the fact that you got it for almost nothing in the Zara sale.
Currently, the mimosa is not available at Zara, and with the turnover in their shelves, it is hard to gauge whether it might make a comeback in the front row during the height of summer. It deserves it, because despite its weaknesses, it is a pleasant companion for the very hot, sultry summer days when just a hint of fragrance is almost too much. And a lovely room scent when it rains and is dreary, and I want to dream a little about the next vacation.
