Toni Gard goes Synthetic
As a fan of synthetic - woody fragrances like Molecule, I obviously had to test this one.
What can I say? It smells woody - synthetic - powdery, reflecting all the ingredients listed at the top of the pyramid.
For lovers of this fragrance genre who already own the Molecules, the Escentrics, "Not a Parfume," etc., it's nothing new.
For those who want to test it in-store and have little connection to niche fragrance shops, it could be an entry point.

I like it; I see a resemblance to "Super Cedar" by Byredo, with the difference that Byredo does it better.
Compared to that, Toni has less cedar radiance, making it seem more subdued.
Sillage and longevity are average. And: they should have labeled it as unisex.

My first synthetic fragrance, I'm thrilled
After I had the chance to test Toni with a sample, I fell in love. It is incomparable to any other fragrance in my collection and has a very unique scent direction that is partly hard to put into words.

It smells synthetic, but not in an unpleasant way. Rather in a very clean manner. It has something woody, almost tobacco-like (even though I absolutely detest the smell of tobacco). It smells fresh, clean, unique, different, confident but not intrusive. It makes people come to you, rather than introducing itself uninvited.

I have already received male and female compliments for the fragrance. For me, it is indeed more of a unisex scent.

Unfortunately, the longevity is not impressive here. 3 hours noticeable and then only a skin scent for me personally.

I use the fragrance alone, but I find that it is great for layering. It adds a fresh, woody, musky note to other fragrances.

A unique molecular scent that I don't want to miss anymore.

Short Liaison
I love this clean, powdery scent. It is by no means intrusive, but rather plays in the background.

The only downside is the rather short performance. It could be significantly stronger for me and a bit more present, because I think it’s so wonderful.

I will definitely buy it more often, as it is still a true scent for feeling comfortable and good.

Not a Wonder of Longevity
Somehow, Toni is a niche perfume: Somewhere in the niche between the inexpensive celebrity fragrances and the mainstream designer scents behind the closed glass doors.

The presentation doesn't immediately scream for attention but rather holds back. However, after sniffing through the other Toni Garn fragrances from time to time to pass the time, it was Toni that I tried this time.

I don't know if it was just the test bottle, but the first spray was very intense, not a fine mist. Accordingly, it took a while before I could perceive anything other than the alcohol. But then the scent became very pleasant, a woody subtle skin scent without much fuss. There is a similarity to other molecule fragrances. Compared to "Not a Perfume (Eau de Parfum) | Juliette Has A Gun," this scent is softer and less woody. The fragrance is synthetically pleasant in a positive way: no sticky sweetness, no disturbing artificial notes.

I couldn't detect a scent progression, but unfortunately, the fragrance disappeared very quickly. For me, a maximum of 2-3 hours.

If you overlook the short longevity, Toni is well-suited as an everyday scent. You smell well-groomed, and nothing is annoying. However, one should not place any value on a recognizability factor. For me, however, it's not a candidate for purchase.

Without him, I wouldn't be here
My first review belongs to my first love, Toni.

When I was 17-18 (almost a decade ago now), I longed for a signature perfume, having only worn scents that my mother left on her makeup table until then. Back then, I bought Olympea without much thought. Motivation: the date I was going to wore Invictus. :)

Olympea is a beautiful scent, no question about it, but from today's perspective, there are few fragrances that would suit me less. Even without much knowledge about perfume, I knew that back then, and after a while, I looked at the testers that came with my Olympea order, and there he was: Toni!

Knowing full well that many good fragrances didn't fit into my budget back then - Olympea itself was already an investment! - I didn't pay much attention to Toni until I found him at dm for an absolutely affordable price. Safe to say - Toni came home with me that day. :))

Since then, I buy him again and again. The situation of having an empty bottle at home was not allowed to happen. At some point, it did happen, and of course, I ran to dm to restock, only to find nothing! He was also no longer available online. In my panic, I wrote an email to Toni Gard (I know, I know...). Although I didn't receive a response, I'm not angry with them today, as my favorite is available again. :) Even in an even more intense, beautiful version that is significantly stronger in longevity than Toni: Toni Iconic.

Few people know, especially in young adulthood or as teenagers, who they are, where they belong, and how things will go on, but Toni already gave me a certain sense of identity back then. As if the perfume chose me, not the other way around. When I left the house, a part of my self was missing until I applied it.

I am currently on the go, so Toni is sitting with an AnOther13 tester that I picked up from the Le Labo store in Berlin, my makeup essentials, and some labeled scent strips in my cosmetic bag. If it weren't for Toni, I would have never created this account, wouldn't be enchanted by fragrances today, would have never become interested in knowing what sillage means or what a synthetic scent is. I wouldn't be searching for a perfumery in every city just to check off my wish list, and I wouldn't have ended up in Le Labo Berlin to decide on my next birthday gift if Toni hadn't been standing as a tester at my door.

Toni has indeed become my signature perfume. If I leave my scarf somewhere, I often get the message "you forgot something with me. It smells like you!". Whether I choose AnOther13, Scarlet Poppy, I Don't Know What, or Side Effect in the future remains to be seen. As long as Toni (or Toni Iconic!) is available, he will always be my go-to scent.

Apologies for the potential kitsch/pathos. Also, excuse the lack of associations and technical terms, as one finds in the best Parfumo reviews; I still lack that knowledge. The review is meant to be an ode to all the favorite perfumes in the world. The right scents highlight the epithets of the wearer, and one thing I am sure of: We do not find our signature perfume ourselves; it finds us.

Toni could definitely pass as a unisex fragrance. I really like it. It's a pleasantly woody-powdery scent. Lasts surprisingly long for me...

Light alcohol note at the beginning. After a few minutes, it's herbal - woody - fresh. Absolutely unisex.

Great for anyone who likes Juliette has a gun not a perfume or Molecule 01/02. Also perfect for layering for a woody base and great sillage.

Beautifully fresh, slightly herbal and woody. After a while on the skin, it becomes a bit warmer and creamier. Enveloping without being heavy.

Synthetic freshness. Not just clean, but ... sterile and slightly metallic. It's nice, but Not a Perfume wins for me.

I've searched for it longer! The delicate fresh cloud that the wearer leaves behind. Freshly showered, slightly woody, and synthetically wonderful!
