the ripening process of a fig
With Silent Flowers - Balade de Figuier, I truly embark on a little excursion through a fig tree grove surrounded by lavender.
The name suggests a fig scent, and even if I can't smell the fig itself, I think the name fits. Why is that? That's easily explained;
Depending on the degree of ripeness of the fig, its scent can be found in a spectrum of fruity, sweet, fresh and milky as well as woody, bitter, tart or green. And it is precisely these degrees of ripeness that can be found in the fragrance.
It is almost as if Jo Malone wanted to depict the ripening process of the fig in this perfume and she has captured this mood well, including the tree on which it grows.
Imagine a fig branch in fast motion, on which a bud grows, opens, blossoms, is pollinated, blossoms, the fruit develops, changes from green and tart to dark and velvety. The leaves, the blossom, the wood, the fruit, everything smells....
Back to the fragrance: The fragrance begins with a fresh, fruity, britzey scent of hesperides. The Britzelige of the top note remains rather short, which I find a pity, because I liked it very much. Shortly afterwards, it becomes pleasantly soft, warm, spicy, woody and slightly tart.
Woods emerge and determine the rest of the fragrance's character. A finely chiseled tobacco note creeps in between, while a warm floral melange constantly resonates. Lavender is perceptible, but it is not masculine, but delicate and tender. Iris certainly plays a subordinate role, the fragrance is not powdery. Vetiver gives it a certain twist, but in general it is calm, comforting and warm, which is certainly also due to benzoin and musk.
When I first sniffed it, I was still a little undecided, somehow it seemed too immature or unbalanced. It took me a while to understand it, but I think it's great. It's a fragrance that always works, even in spring. Flattering, reasonably long-lasting, special and yet pleasing and never smelled like this before! If you like woody-floral fragrances, you should give this one a try. Quite expensive for a Zara, but a super high-quality bottle with a magnetic lid.
