The best of the line?

Sandalwood Elixir is probably the most popular of this Elixir line from Vibrant Leather, along with Tobacco Elixir. However, I must admit that I am a bit surprised by the rating here.
In my opinion, this is the best fragrance in the line and also the strongest.
Now to the scent: The scent is an interpretation of Nishane Hacivat Oud, but not really. This masterpiece does its own thing. It is a winter/fall fragrance. Spicy, woody, leathery (less than with Violet Elixir). You can strongly smell cardamom, but I don't smell any sandalwood and am therefore, as so often with Zara, a bit puzzled by the naming. However, that doesn't matter, as this fragrance has a wonderful scent progression. If you were to bottle this fragrance in a niche bottle, no one would notice that it only costs €30. It is also an insane performer. I can still smell it after over 10 hours and at the same time wonder: Why not always like this, Zara?
The sillage is sufficient but not too overpowering. The bottle is simple and elegant.
P/L is just insane.

"Can I just say how amazing you smell?"

I have only been in the perfume game for about a year and don’t have much knowledge on how to describe scents. Generally, I have been more of a "fresh-spicy" type so far. My most expensive fragrances to date have been Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum and Y Eau de Parfum.

I bought this fragrance at the end of June on sale for €20 (RRP €30). It shows: good fragrances don’t have to be expensive.

Development:

Right after application, the fragrance unfolds a citrusy-herb freshness. It is very present, but not overwhelming. On the contrary, it invigorates. I can smell the cardamom. In the distance, sandalwood is emerging. The longer the fragrance is on my skin, the more the citrus-fresh notes dissipate, and it tends to bring the robust-spicy sandalwood to the forefront. In the drydown, these woody notes then mix with the leather, and besides the spice, which is no longer as prominent as at first, I think I can detect a hint of sweetness.

Longevity:

I find the longevity to be above average. When I spray it on in the morning, it lasts at least 6 hours, even longer on clothes. If I go out in the evening, I usually apply a bit more.

Sillage:

I usually apply 4 sprays: 2 in the front, 1 in the back, and 1 on my wrist. For the first hour, I can smell it strongly on myself (which I really like!). After that, this effect fades, and I am primarily noticed by the people around me. The best compliment I have received for my perfume was when I was sitting in front of the PC with a friend, and in the middle of our conversation, he said to me, "Sorry, but can I just say how amazing you smell?"

Bottle:

I find the bottle very beautifully designed. I like the shiny black glass with the golden lettering. It gives a hint of the fragrance. It definitely looks more expensive than it is. Two nice features are, on one hand, the "Zara" inscription that is embossed on the top of the cap. On the other hand, there is a golden ring embedded on the underside of the cap, behind which the magnet is hidden. It is very strong, and you can lift the bottle by the cap without having to worry about it falling. It reminds me of the cap of my Bleu de Chanel EDP. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the matte finish of the cap. I would have preferred a shiny finish here. But that’s nitpicking at a low price point.

Conclusion:

The fragrance has been bringing me joy for the past 2 weeks and will surely continue to do so for a long time. It is great as an everyday scent, but also suitable for going out in the evening. It is present and powerful and can also be easily over-sprayed.

Absolutely recommendable, even if it’s not on sale!

P.S.: I got it together with "Zara Emotions N°01 - Vetiver Pamplemousse (Eau de Parfum) | Zara". In my opinion, they layer very well. The vetiver adds a summery fruity note and makes it a bit lighter.

A Blind Purchase ...

This fragrance was one of my first blind buys since I've been active on Parfumo.
I haven't tried the original Vibrant Leather (2018) Eau de Parfum yet.

I actually wanted to buy "Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes (Eau de Parfum) | Zara," as I like it much better than "Imagination | Louis Vuitton," which doesn't perform at all on me. The bundle included "Sand Desert at Sunset | Zara," but you know how it is; you want to save on shipping costs, so you look for what else is available at Zara, and this fragrance just caught my attention because it's super new, received decent reviews in the first discussions, and is not too expensive, though it is on the higher end for a Zara scent.
So I just ordered it.

In the opening, and I don't mean the first 5-10 minutes but rather the first 1-2 hours, I don't really like this fragrance so far.
It feels like there is way too much pineapple coming through for me, even though it's not listed as a note. But it does remind me a bit of "Club de Nuit Intense Man (Eau de Toilette) | Armaf," just in a composition that doesn't blow me away.

However, in the later development of the fragrance, this strong pineapple note fades (or is what I perceive as pineapple actually the leathery scent?), and other facets that I can't quite place start to come through more and more, making the fragrance much more pleasant for me personally. That’s probably the sandalwood. I wonder how I would feel about the fragrance if it were like this from the start?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that this fragrance undergoes a really strong development. The initial note remains present. But still, something is happening, and I find that good, especially since the price is really inviting. It is said to be inspired by "Santal 33 (Eau de Parfum) | Le Labo." However, I don't know that one, so I can't make comparisons.

Some fragrances do mature over time. I currently don't think this will be a scent I reach for often. Accordingly, it will stay on the shelf for now, and maybe it will perform differently in the fall/winter.

For me, it's generally a lesson to avoid blind buys.
Buying from the Souk decants is always the better alternative, especially when there are so many other fragrances on the must-have list.
But that's how you learn.
It wasn't a waste, but it also wasn't a mega positive surprise.
I'm very curious about other opinions here on Parfumo.

Addition:
The longevity on clothing is absolutely incredible. Your shirt will smell like it at least the next day, probably even longer.

This is Santal 33's stronger, more masculine, and dare I say, cooler brother. No pickle note detected. This is insane value for the price.
