Bleu de Chanel
I am a niche fragrance lover. I have over 300 bottle of fragrances. This one was about to be givwnen away because I couldn't remember why I owned it what it smelled like. I sprayed it to be sure I wanted to part with it and I could not.

This is a super fresh, spicy, citrus blast that lasts. No, it is not unique. I've smelled similar but the similarities are only with regard to some of the ingredients. For me, this lasts and it's timeless. I won't be able to part with it after all.

Sillage 8/10
Longevity 9/10
Price 8/10 - u can buy online & at discounters
Great scent
Age: 29+

Would I buy again? Yes

I would love to know if anyone has any better frags that are similar to this one and why.

Tragic in stereo
The EDP version of Bleu de Chanel opens with citrus-green notes, a bold metallic-woody-spicy synthetic accord (norlimbanol and fellows) which shall recreate a sort of “woody-spicy” base. Pungent whiffs of calone and menthol notes blend with citrus to evoke the finest Walmart deodorant. The drydown goes better, it becomes all more herbal, mossy and dry (like in any aromatic woody fougère), then gently evolving on softer and cozier synthetic woods. All the intolerable cheapness and dullness of possibly one of the worst Chanel’s ever made is masterfully treasured here as well, just in a more powerful Dolby Surround for our noses’ delight. Disgracefully long-lasting persistence.

Single Greatest All Rounder Ever Created
The GOAT. #1 on every “safe blind buy” list. Helped define the “blue” category that took its name from it. Arguably the most iconic men’s scent of all time.

I always keep and refill a 5 ml decant that I almost never wear. Not because it isn’t amazing, but because in a bigger wardrobe, something else usually feels a bit more interesting. If I owned just one cologne, this would probably be it. In a rotation, it sees less use.

TL;DR: It’s the GOAT for a reason. Smooth, universally appealing, fresh, and impeccably clean. It leaves a light, slightly musky, lightly woody scent on skin and clothes long after the obvious top notes fade.

The blend is stunning. It takes you on a journey, and at every stage you smell “Bleu,” not individual notes. Even Fragrantica, Basenotes, and Parfumo don’t agree on the exact note list.

I honestly can’t think of a scenario where this wouldn’t work or a person it wouldn’t suit.

OTOH, its success is its own worst enemy. Everything now smells sort of like it. It’s still the best, but less unique than it once was because everything from hotels to shampoos hint at Bleu. You don’t NEED to own this, unless you’re really looking for a single scent to wear everywhere.

Rating:
Opening: 4.3/5
Drydown: 4.2/5
Overall: 8.5/10

Opening
Wonderfully fresh and clean. Grapefruit peeks through if you go looking, but with the aldehydes it almost reads like cantaloupe-cool. It’s more refreshing than overtly citrusy. In fact it’s refreshing AF without being a cliché “freshie.” A hint of pink pepper adds sparkle without shouting PEPPER (this isn’t Sauvage).

Heart
Around 45 minutes, the ginger arrives, spicy-ish, exquisitely blended, handing off from the pepper to keep interest up. “Fresh-spicy” is the vibe. Nothing perfumey or cloying; it smells like someone well-groomed who has their life together.

By 90 minutes, the citrus is gone. There’s still a modest aura. Sandalwood smooths everything out, but the woods are so well-blended they’re hard to pick apart. There’s a touch of “shower-gel clean,” likely from lingering aldehydes + jasmine lift over those silky woods.

Drydown
In the base a clean, gauzy incense shows up. It’s just enough to add interest without disrupting the clean accord. Chanel calls it woody; compared with truly woody styles like Dior Homme (2020) or Terre d’Hermès, this reads cleaner and less wood-forward. Tonka/vanilla keep the finish soft and smooth rather than sweet.

Modern-masculine in a clean way, more Gillette ad than This Is Sparta or Marlboro Man.

At 6 hours: slight wood and a wisp of incense. Not quite skin-scent, but you need to be close.

At 7 hours: smooth wood-musk. A pleasant skin-musk trace lingers for hours.

Performance on me
Good. ~3 hours of a noticeable bubble, then closer-to-skin. About 8 hours total on skin.

Versatility
Year-round. I honestly can’t think of a place this doesn’t work. The single most versatile scent I can name.

Use cases
Daily driver for office, travel days, “meet the parents,” first dates, investor coffees. Really, anything where polished and trustworthy beats loud and daring.

Vibe
Clean, confident, well-groomed, maybe has a six-pack. Not trying too hard. Unmistakably put-together.

Blind-buy safe?
Yes. This may be the definition of "blind-buy safe." It's the blueprint for “blue.” If you like fresh, you’re safe. It literally smells “blue” when you smell it.

Overall take
For effortless, musky-fresh-woody, and clean that stays classy in every scenario, Bleu de Chanel EDP nails it. It’s not the most characterful bottle on the shelf, but it’s the one that never misfires. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Context: Four sprays. One left elbow, two right wrist, and one right hand for easy sniffing.

Versatile everyday wearer
By far one of the most versatile fragrances I have used. Currently my daily wear fragrance.
Though I have tried EDT, EDP and parfum. The EDP one is still my favorite in terms of scent composition and projection.
EDT tends to be more lively with its citrus notes, whilst EDP more so with amber and sandalwood notes. Parfum variants opening is slightly weak compared with EDP instead they become washed down by the strength of the woody notes. I also found that the transition from citrus to woody notes with hints of spice inbetween was much more enticing with the EDP. My personal opinion is EDP is the winner however if you are someone who is unsure to go for EDT or parfum then go for EDP, which has best of both worlds.
In terms of sillage, the opening is strong but not strong enough to fill a room or draw attention. Strong enough to be noticed by someone a few feet away however this does not last long and soon switches to a skin scent with longevity around 4-6 hours dependent on environment. If you are someone who wants longer projection then opt for parfum.

Compare this with the parfum
I have owned the parfum for about 3 months now so here we go. (P=parfum EDP=EDP)

Opening:
P is more realistic fruity, imagine a juicy pineapple and lemon peel squeezed together. P's opening also smells fizzy to me, you can smell that fizziness from the atomizer. Very refreshing, fruit juice like. Along with that there is a greeness to balance, it's slightly spearminty and green.

EDP is more bitter and zesty with the grapefruit, if you smell it up close it can be somewhat mettalic and pungent, but in the air others can perceive an ultra-fresh-zestiness.

Mid:
P is a funny one because in hot weather, I perceive more woody notes and creaminess. Some mentioned a crayon note, I think that may be the cashmere note. The sandalwood along with the cedar really shine through. In coldish weather you can still detect the pineapple fruitiness. Lavender is absolutely there, very realistic and natural smelling. You don't get the lavender note all the time, sometimes when the temperature is right you can smell the lavender from sprays on cloth very clearly.

EDP has more floral nuance to it. Hedione is absolutely used. Citrusy seems to be completely gone to me. I never perceive any incense in BDC but whatever... The airy jasmine is combined with a slightly warm ginger note so it's very pleasing in warm - hot weathers.

Base:
P becomes more woody. In short, a lemony sandalwood with cedar roughness.
EDP's ambroxan comes out, gives this fragrance an addictiveness
My opinion on them:
both can easily cause olfactory fatigue. But EDP does actually project more.
the Parfum version is really much better if applied on skin because on cloth sometimes I can barely detect anything.
EDP on the other hand... spray on cloth or skin is fine.

EDP is absolutely fresh enough for summer 80-90 degree IMO
Parfum is best worn under 80 degree as in high heat the fruity notes are gone and you get tremendous woodiness.

Price wise, I think honestly both are worth the money. I currently only own the parfum and have a sample of the EDP (I've owned the EDP before)
To me, since my collection lacks some winter, warm scents, I'll keep the parfum. as it is more warm and cozy.

A lot of people say there is not a big difference between the Parfum and the EDP. To me, upon the first 15-30 min there really is not a big difference, but they dry down very differently to me.

some cues:
Sandalwood, cedarwood, warm, cuddly scent lovers=Parfum
Ambroxan, floral, ultra fresh scent lovers=EDP

To me there is not a point in owning both as both are extremely pleasant so it's hard to decide which one to wear LOL. Just for your own convenience sakes, I recommend only getting one in the line.

Also, I known people often despise it's "genericness", however to me this is really like the counterpart of Coco-Madamosille.
If you smelled that, you know it's instantly recognizable, but it's SOOOOOO good on a woman.
This is like that for us men. Us fragheads may find it boring but man, I can imagine any woman who smell it on us to be very pleased.

Also, I've owned all 3 versions of sauvage before.
Compare to BDC line, Sauvage absolutely smells more shower gel like. Nothing wrong with that but I'd recommend anyone who enjoys natural smelling stuff to go for BDC line.
Finally, I've owned BDC EDT, I CANNOT STAND IT. reason being, some ingredient in the EDT causes a sore throat for me, literally. I remember for a long time I had a bad throat but I didn't know what was the cause then I eventually figured out it was the EDT that was causing it. I guess I'm just sensitive to super harsh scents...

Gives "dark blue steel" vibes. Well-blended, smooth, versatile. Classy, masculine: a confident guy who doesn't have to shout for attention.

The father of blue scents. Citrusy, fruity with woody notes. Fresh, aromatic and well blended. It's a pleasant scent for the masses.
