The 1st
Of course, I am also someone who is influenced by YouTube and co, which is why you can not get around certain houses. Some time ago I saw videos of Aquaman (Mr. Birkholz) and his brand, partly on his own channel and partly on other channels where Birkholz was introduced and or Aquaman had a guest appearance. Well, I was made curious and wanted to test Birkholz gladly times. When I then recently found a good offer from Berlin Soul, I thought to myself what the heck and got me a bottle right away (you do not treat yourself to anything else).

Well, then we come to the fragrance.

The comparisons to BA I can only partly understand. Yes.....some notes are somewhat similar, but only in the drydown. Opening is very different, later follow a few parallels.
If both are tested in a direct comparison (left hand, right hand), then one notices quite clearly the differences between the two. Both have their own charm / appeal, which means in reverse for me that Berlin Soul definitely has its raison d'être and is therefore also independent enough (for me at least).
In the opening comes to me a slightly smoky, boozy hazelnut. In the further course join also still fine tobacco and woods. Likewise, I perceive a subtle spice and a certain slightly tart / masculine note.

My conclusion:

Quite a pleasant and well-made fragrance. Considering the price for 100 ml, I find it absolutely acceptable. Even the bottle is as I find high quality, moreover, most of the handwork is at Birkholz. Certainly the Lord of the Seas does not have to hide. Since I liked the 1ste very well, I am now motivated to test more of the brand and am curious what is still hidden so everything in the rough sea.

Apparently, the man with the trident is a very likeable guy with an authentic brand. Let's see what comes there still so.
Testing mMn always worth it, you never know when and where you find his personal Graal.

Berlin wears leather and metal
The bottle of this perfume did not leave a special impression on me. It seems rather unimaginative and strongly resembles the other fragrances, which vary only slightly in their flacon design. At first glance, it could be described as rather stuffy, and it's hard to deduce what's hiding inside. But maybe that's just the motto of "Berlin" - stuffy outside and wild inside? Actually, I had always expected it the other way around.

This fragrance is a prime example of how the fragrance pyramid can awaken completely different ideas than the actual fragrance experience.

I find the opening to be somewhat strong and musty. It reminds me of an oriental vintage fragrance with strong hints of patchouli and some whiskey (some musty whiskey). This was a bit confusing for me, as I would have expected something different from a modern niche scent called "Berlin Soul". But after about 15 minutes, things get exciting as vetiver, sandalwood and oud enter the stage. Especially the oud and the vetiver are to smell out for me. Because the vetiver is earthy, leathery and spicy, the perfume definitely has a strong oriental note. The heart notes are surrounded by a hint of powdery vintage charm, which makes it a bit softer. It has, in my opinion, a certain retro vibe throughout the course of it as a result. Then a scent note that doesn't show up in the description emerges: Metal. More specifically, copper. A very special scent that I still find super interesting. This metallic note persists and blends in the background to the softer, creamy notes that gradually appear in the base.

Everything becomes softer, but still remains a unique blend. It may be strange, but somehow it works. The perfume combines many individual aspects, each of which would already make a good fragrance individually, into a fascinating melange. There are so many powerful fragrance notes, yet they blend together so skillfully to create a harmonious whole. This fragrance really captivated me. It combines unique fragrance notes in a way that is simply fascinating and works well. It is as if a rhythmic sound emerges from it.

Boozy hazelnut
Comes as a very enveloping warm fragrance. Predominantly recognizable a whiskey note, the hazelnut is also there, but definitely the antagonist. Not a fascinating scent, but it smells good. Gentle is the tonka bean, woods give depth in the background. I don't detect iris at all. The progression is not really spectacular either, but you don't buy that here. A very nice fragrance for the colder days.

Whiskey tasting with friends
The Berlin Soul was a spontaneous purchase. I actually wanted to test other perfumes that I didn't really like. Until the nice Pieper store manager showed me this one. She said it was a different fragrance that you don't smell that often. But it's very masculine, with a certain whiskey note.

My eyes widened, interesting, I thought to myself? Although I've never really smelled any good perfumes in this direction. The first sniff blew me away, like an old smoky, nutty whiskey. That's exactly how it starts, then it becomes sweeter, oudier and more tobacco-like. The iris bothers me a little, though. I also find the heart note slightly powdery.

When it gets to the base note, it becomes dirty and smoky again, which I like better.
The whiskey note remains throughout the entire fragrance.

All in all, simply a different fragrance. That you have never experienced before. The H / S could be better in my eyes and project more.

My first perfume from Birkholz, which I do not regret. The bottle is timelessly crafted, with the engraved leather strap....beautiful. There is love in it. Mega work, you have not disappointed me.

Berlin, you are so wonderful
It's been 13 years since my last visit to Berlin. Back then, I was still on a graduation trip with my school. I still have many wonderful memories and impressions of Berlin. A colorful city where everything can and nothing has to be and, above all, which never sleeps. Berlin Soul is intended to be a declaration of love to the producer's home city and reflect the crazy and exciting facets in his notes.

I'll be honest, when I smell the fragrance for the first time, I never think "Aaaah that's Berlin". The quite interesting list of ingredients somehow doesn't come together very harmoniously. The hazelnut note is quite interesting at the beginning, but is repeatedly disturbed by some musty/woody note. In general, I find the fragrance far too boring to reflect such a crazy city as Berlin.

The performance, on the other hand, is very much based on the Berlin model, as the fragrance never sleeps after application and lasts all night. I was able to smell four sprays myself for over eight hours. That does justice to Berlin's nightlife.

The bottle is beautiful to look at, very high quality and in the classic Birkholz design BUT why did they choose black leather as a decoration? The last color I think of when someone asks me about Berlin is black. Here, too, I miss the reference to the naming.

In terms of price, I would only describe the 164 euros charged for 100 ml as "okay" because the performance gets everything out of it and the bottle is of high quality. The fragrance DNA on its own would not be worth the money.

If you like "nutty" fragrances, I would recommend By the Fireplace rather than Berlin Soul. The chestnut note harmonizes much better with the other ingredients, the fragrance is much more true to its name and costs much less.

Despite the intense nutty woody note, there is a certain looseness that makes the fragrance suitable for everyday use and easy to wear.
