The 1st
Of course, I am also someone who is influenced by YouTube and the like, which is why certain houses cannot be ignored. Some time ago, I watched videos from Aquaman (Mr. Birkholz) and his brand, partly on his own channel and partly on other channels where Birkholz was featured or Aquaman made a guest appearance. Well, I became curious and wanted to test Birkholz. When I recently found a good offer from Berlin Soul, I thought why not and immediately got myself a bottle (after all, one deserves to treat oneself).
Alright, let's get to the scent.
I can only partially understand the comparisons to BA. Yes... certain notes are somewhat similar, but only in the drydown. The opening is very different, and later a few parallels emerge.
When both are tested in a direct comparison (left hand, right hand), the differences between the two become very clear. Both have their own charm/appeal, which in turn means to me that Berlin Soul definitely has its right to exist and is thus independent enough (at least for me).
In the opening, I am greeted by a slightly smoky, boozy hazelnut. As it develops, fine tobacco and woods join in. I also perceive a subtle spiciness as well as a certain slight bitterness/masculine note.
My conclusion:
Definitely a pleasant and well-crafted scent. Considering the price for 100 ml, I find it absolutely acceptable. I also think the bottle is of high quality, and most of the work at Birkholz is done by hand. Surely, the lord of the seas does not need to hide. Since I liked the 1st very much, I am now motivated to test more from the brand and am curious about what else is hidden in the rough sea.
Apparently, the man with the trident is a very likeable guy with an authentic brand. Let's see what else comes up.
Testing is always worth it in my opinion; you never know when and where you might find your personal grail.
