The 1st
Of course, I am also someone who is influenced by YouTube and the like, which is why certain houses cannot be ignored. Some time ago, I watched videos from Aquaman (Mr. Birkholz) and his brand, partly on his own channel and partly on other channels where Birkholz was featured or Aquaman made a guest appearance. Well, I became curious and wanted to test Birkholz. When I recently found a good offer from Berlin Soul, I thought why not and immediately got myself a bottle (after all, one deserves to treat oneself).

Alright, let's get to the scent.

I can only partially understand the comparisons to BA. Yes... certain notes are somewhat similar, but only in the drydown. The opening is very different, and later a few parallels emerge.
When both are tested in a direct comparison (left hand, right hand), the differences between the two become very clear. Both have their own charm/appeal, which in turn means to me that Berlin Soul definitely has its right to exist and is thus independent enough (at least for me).
In the opening, I am greeted by a slightly smoky, boozy hazelnut. As it develops, fine tobacco and woods join in. I also perceive a subtle spiciness as well as a certain slight bitterness/masculine note.

My conclusion:

Definitely a pleasant and well-crafted scent. Considering the price for 100 ml, I find it absolutely acceptable. I also think the bottle is of high quality, and most of the work at Birkholz is done by hand. Surely, the lord of the seas does not need to hide. Since I liked the 1st very much, I am now motivated to test more from the brand and am curious about what else is hidden in the rough sea.

Apparently, the man with the trident is a very likeable guy with an authentic brand. Let's see what else comes up.
Testing is always worth it in my opinion; you never know when and where you might find your personal grail.

Spicy-Woody-Masculine-Perfect
This scent is not without reason my signature fragrance. Since I share many moments and memories with this scent, it has accompanied me in various situations and has brought me many compliments, it remains unbeaten for me. As can be seen from the fragrance pyramid, the scent has a very prominent start with a deep aromatic whisky note, slightly rounded off with hazelnut to provide the "necessary" spice and curiosity to increase the anticipation for its development. Woods like cedar, sandalwood, and especially oud give a lot of "darkness" and depth; to prevent it from being too overpowering, softer notes like slightly sweet tobacco, light iris, and prominent vetiver balance the masterpiece and provide a unique character that one doesn't really know.
As the drydown suddenly arrives, something unexpected happens in a "woody-spicy fragrance": a sweet yet warm amber combined with musk and tonka bean gives the whole thing a lot of warmth and elegance, with just a touch of patchouli to add a fresh note that makes the scent wearable even in summer, which is not something one usually expects from "woody-spicy fragrances."
Highly recommended and will definitely be repurchased again and again.

Berlin Wears Leather and Metal
The bottle of this perfume did not leave a special impression on me. It seems quite uninspired and strongly resembles other fragrances that only vary slightly in their bottle design. At first glance, one could describe it as rather stuffy, and it's hard to deduce what lies within. But perhaps that is the motto of "Berlin" - stuffy on the outside and wild on the inside? I actually expected it to be the other way around.

This scent is a prime example of how the fragrance pyramid can evoke entirely different expectations than the actual scent experience.

I find the opening to be somewhat strong and musty. It reminds me of an oriental vintage scent with strong hints of patchouli and a bit of whiskey (a somewhat musty whiskey). This was a bit confusing for me, as I would have expected something different from a modern niche fragrance called "Berlin Soul." However, after about 15 minutes, it becomes exciting, as vetiver, sandalwood, and oud take the stage. Especially the oud and the vetiver are prominent for me. Because the vetiver is earthy, leathery, and spicy, the perfume definitely has a strong oriental note. The heart notes are surrounded by a hint of powdery vintage charm, which softens it a bit. In my opinion, this also gives it a certain retro vibe throughout its entirety. Then a scent note appears that is not mentioned in the description: metal. More specifically, copper. A very unique scent that I still find super interesting. This metallic note persists and blends in the background with the softer, creamy notes that gradually emerge in the base.

Everything becomes softer, yet it remains a unique blend. It may seem strange, but somehow it works. The perfume combines many individual aspects, each of which would already make a good scent on its own, into a fascinating melange. There are so many powerful fragrance notes that blend together so skillfully that they create a harmonious overall picture. This scent has truly captivated me. It unites unique fragrance notes in a way that is simply fascinating and works well. It's as if a rhythmic sound emerges from it.

Berlin Soul - Exactly My Thing!
I actually bought the Luxury Passion from Birkholz and received the sample of Berlin Soul as a bonus. At home, I realized that Berlin Soul is actually my fragrance and not Luxury Passion. When I first sprayed it, I thought, wow, what does this scent remind you of? You know this fragrance DNA, right? I hadn't worn Oxford in a long time, yet the association was immediate. What Oxford revealed only in the top and base notes was present right away in Berlin Soul. The first seconds feature the wonderful whiskey note, then the transition to the already woody accord combined with a hint of tobacco in the top note. A bit smoky - leathery and with a subtly perceptible vetiver in the background. I couldn't detect the oud and iris notes, but that didn't detract from the fragrance experience. After 4-5 hours, the performance ends, and the base says "goodbye - until next time"! The ambery finish remains pleasantly noticeable for some time. The fragrance experience wasn't unique but certainly interesting and not boring. If you, like me, enjoy spicy woody scents, this is just right for you. The price is reasonable. The sillage was a bit weak, but it could increase in winter, as the test took place in warm to hot temperatures. My dosage was 2-3 sprays, which is completely sufficient for perception in the immediate vicinity. I must admit, I belong more to the "less is more" category.

Very Masculine Scent
For me personally, the most masculine scent from the Classic Collection by Birkholz, so I don't find it to be unisex. Wonderful whiskey-hazelnut top note. I personally perceive almost only whiskey. In the drydown, the whiskey note remains somewhat softer, yet very assertive. The scent has a very long lasting power on the skin; you can really tell that the oil content in the fragrance is quite high. In my opinion, the scent is significantly better than rated here. When you enter a room with this fragrance, surely a couple of people will come up to you and ask what scent it is. I must agree with dear Mr. Birkholz regarding what he says about this fragrance!

Despite the intense nutty woody note, there is a certain looseness that makes the fragrance suitable for everyday use and easy to wear.

Hazelnut whisky with wood and tobacco leaf aroma. Oud is very fine and absolutely suitable for beginners. Smells very high quality, a bit too masculine for me.

Starts off briefly with delicious boozy nuts - like hazelnut liqueur. Transitions to a pleasant woody-spicy scent with cozy oud + patch. No Berlin vibes. Nice.
