A Burnt Banana Split on the Moon
I thought, "All vanilla scents are pretty much the same." And I was wrong. I received this is a free sample with another purchase from Indigo Perfumery and I sprayed it on without knowing anything about it and without even looking at the fragrance notes.
My first thought was, "Why is there a banana here?" And that's when I sat down and looked up the fragrance pyramid and was floored that banana isn't listed anywhere.
The frankincense, leather, and pepper conspire to create the effect that something in this fragrance has been vaporized so that nothing but fumes and graphite residue are left behind. It's sharp, very high-pitched, prickly. Under that, the distant smell of overly-ripe banana with the barest whisper of vanilla. And that's it. There are no deeper, grounding elements to the fragrance. It's all very high-pitched treble and no bass.
Having said all that, I don't find it to be unpleasant. If it were marketed as some uber-conceptual "moon rock banana" I'd be much more on board, I think? But it's still not one I'd wear. It's been fun to sample, though.
