Osmanthus bushes
It’s summer. You carefully sip on your chai sitting in the garden. It’s hot and slightly spicy, just the way you like it. Frankincense is slowly burning and spreading its fragrance.
The sun is starting to set but it’s still very warm outside. On the table beside the tea you have a bowl of mandarins, one of which you peeled. Ripe and delicious.
The garden is surrounded by osmanthus bushes, trees and some roses. Mostly osmanthus. It’s a distinct fragrance that reminds you of late summers from your childhood. Nothing smells like it. It’s hard to describe yet easy to recognise. If you made an attempt to describe it, it would sound something like this:
“Jasmine tea with extra spoons of honey, very sweet. Then add a pinch of yellow floral pollen to it. On the side you have some apricot jam.”
As the scent dries down you can smell the oud coming forward. The oud is very refined, sparkling and floral. Not your “usual” woody, dark, smokey oud.
