A unique and interesting scent

Akatsuki Melba opens with a burst of peach and raspberry, and maybe some osmanthus. As it dries down the jelly joins in and becomes richer as time goes on. At this stage it’s a juicy raspberry/blackcurrant jelly scent. As it continues to dry down, the caramel appears, still with the jelly note in the background. I’m not really getting any vanilla or tonka, but that could be my sense of smell. It’s quite a long lasting fragrance. I also find this similar to Licorice , which I also liked but chose to sell. While this doesn’t have a liquorice note, the main note I get in both is a jelly blackcurrant scent. If you have one, you definitely don’t need the other.

This wont be a full bottle buy for me, but it’s a fun and interesting scent I enjoy smelling. A good 7.5/10 for me. I’d say it’s the best scent from this house so far, and could probably be worn all year round.

My dear grandma's (strawberry) jam

When I spray this fragrance on for the first time, I immediately pause. What does it remind me of? Then, very slowly, it comes back: a comforting, warm and familiar feeling like a hug from the past. And suddenly I knew it: my grandma!

In my mind, I'm suddenly five years old, it's a beautiful summer's day outside and I'm happily strolling through my grandma's old house. This house is in Kazakhstan, in a small village of 800 people. At this time of year, life here is the simplest of simple: no running water, no one has internet or electricity - we use kerosene lamps and the children play outside the house all day.

Back to the jam ...
My grandma buys five kilograms each of strawberries and cherries at the bazaar. In a huge pot, she sprinkled the fruit with a lot of fine sugar. In my case, I was particularly taken with the strawberries. Every few minutes I dart into the hallway to grab a sugared strawberry from the pot. After the strawberries have been cooked in the sugar broth, my grandma takes a fresh piece of bread, spreads it with homemade smetana (sour cream) and carefully adds the strawberry jam with whole strawberry pieces on top. I take a bite and feel nothing but light-heartedness, security and bliss. All is right with the world.

So, now to the fragrance:
When you spray it on, you immediately get the peach. After a short time, I smell a delicious jam, but is it raspberry? I don't know. You can smell the butter, caramel and tonka bean throughout. This gives the fragrance a special density. Nevertheless, Akatsuki Melba is not an extremely sweet fragrance. It lasts for at least six hours and you can smell it throughout.

I was also very surprised by the packaging - it is high quality and feels good. Just like the bottle. It's a shame that the Fomowa brand is not so well known here. This fragrance is definitely worth a test.
