The Scent for the Sexy Villainess.
Who could have imagined that the Wicked Witch of the West could smell this good? Inhaling a spritz of Mon Parfum Cheri and in front of my mind's eye all the deliciously cruel fairy-tale villainesses parade: evil stepmothers, despotic queens, bad witches and wicked fairies in all their black-purple velvet elegance. I suspect Mlle. Camille must be a huge Allan Poe fan because this dark patchouli and that poisonous (in the best sense of the word!) plum are a perfect reflection of the atmosphere prevalent in his poems and stories.

Mon Parfum's story has a happy ending nevertheless because in the dry-down it becomes a quiet, nostalgic floral. It's a very atypical scent for the Goutal line because of the scent profile as well as the incredible silage. I love Goutal perfumes, but I think most of the ones I have sampled are classically bright, feminine florals.

Mon Parfum Cheri is what I would wear on a cold winter night when I want to feel powerful, mysterious and in control.

Cine și-ar fi închipuit că The Wicked Witch of the West ar putea mirosi atât de bine? Povestea are totuși un happy ending, pentru că in dry-down, devine un dulce tăcut si nostalgic floral. The good ones always go first...

"Greoi" nu mi-se pare un cuvânt potrivit pentru acest elixir. In primul rând, îți trebuie ocazia, ținuta, şi atitudinea corectă ca să îl porți. Ocazia: orice noapte de toamnă/iarnă unde vrei să te simți ca o ființă misterioasă şi seducătoare. Ținuta: o rochie de catifea de culoare închisă, de preferat vișinie sau violetă. Atitudinea: tu ești o femeie puternică, regală, confidentă, elegantă, misterioasă.

...Sometimes....
Sometimes, when a bird calls
or a wind stirs in the branches
or a dog barks in the distant homestead,
then I must listen and remain silent for a long time.

My soul flees back,
to where, a thousand forgotten years ago,
the bird and the blowing wind
were similar to me and my brothers.

My soul becomes tree
and an animal and a weaving of clouds.
Transformed and foreign, it returns
and asks me. How shall I respond?
(Hermann Hesse)

Yes, how shall I respond to this unusual scent?

Patchouli, in the form of fragrance oil from India, my constant companion in my wild youth of the seventies. It encounters me again and again, always new yet so old and familiar, and the scent transforms me into the first memories, as a girl and young woman, when I first felt and knew that I am complete, that I am free.

This scent, precisely from the house of Goutal, is very special, almost absurd, daring in what otherwise stands for highly elegant and ethereal and refined perfumes. It did not remain on the market for very long, as it probably did not meet the expectations of the established Goutal audience.

Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille is actually a true Chypre, but based on patchouli, where the earthy component is emphasized and combined with a plum note. Some describe it as a gothic-opulent scent. Which is absolutely true, although this perfume remains understated as an EdT.

The mustiness has been stripped from the patchouli here, with violet and iris reigning as highlights on top. I consider it to be classic in a special way, and I think it is incredibly sexy even on a man......

A perfume for pronounced patchouli connoisseurs and lovers, who receive an elegant rendition here. The expression as an EdT lingers on the skin all day. Even now at night, as I write this review, the perfume still envelops me.

I thank my esteemed friend Jako (Jakoparfum) very much, who provided me with this now rare treasure of a scent.

Patchouli/Iris/Plum = Chypre? Moments of Pleasurable Confusion ...
I stumbled upon MPCpC during my search for iris fragrances - beyond the classics of the genre - while reading a review of this scent on an English-language blog that highlighted the iris aspect of the composition. In the US and UK, the Goutal creation has been intensely discussed (unlike here in the forum) and has been predominantly celebrated as a result. Rightly so, in my opinion!

In contrast to many Goutal scents that could be assigned to a kind of delicately dabbed, "impressionistic" perfume school, MPCpC joins a handful of older Goutals (Grand Amour, Passion, Heure Exquise) that present themselves with more curves and are firmly rooted in the "great" perfume tradition. Just as I immediately perceived "Heure Exquise" as a more feminine, yet uniquely crafted variant of "No. 19," the first spray of MPCpC struck me with the force of unexpected recognition as "Rochas Femme (vintage)!" in my mind and heart. An exceedingly strange occurrence, as "Femme" - along with, for example, Mitsouko - is an iconic chypre with a fruity accent, historically attributed in the first case to the use of Prunol (plum) and in the second to Persicol (peach). And the Goutal? Well, what? Apart from the note of ripe plums, there is no labdanum, no oakmoss in sight, so where does this chypre quality, this perceived similarity to "Femme," come from?

The secret seems to lie in the very specific use of patchouli (a note I usually struggle with), which shapes the fragrance from the very first second and remains present throughout all phases of the scent's development. In a chypre, oakmoss provides that bitter-sweet but always dry "edge" that carries the design principle; in this case, patchouli takes on this role. An EXTREMELY dry, earthy patchouli that, together with the note of ripe plums (and a hint of violet that I hardly perceive), as well as an iris root note that reminds me of Serge Lutens' radical, magnificent iris classic "Iris Silver Mist," culminates in a chord that will surely appear musty, gloomy, and dark to some (on English-language forums, this is referred to as "gothic").

I find this chord, which shifts throughout the scent's development in favor of one note or another, to be iridescent, warm, inviting, innovative, characterful, and immensely elegant. And by no means dark or musty. And above all, surprisingly wearable at any time.

Anyone interested in iris ROOT or patchouli scents, in herbaceous-earthy fragrances, in chypres, or in perfumes of the great old school should definitely take MPCpC to heart. For me, it is a great achievement, where historical awareness and innovation come together in a heartwarming moment of highly appealing haute perfumery. Magnificent!

Fascinating. The opening combo of Prunol/iris/patchouli reminds me of the smell fresh ink on newspapers. A smell that I love. Stupid name.

Help, I'm an aardvark. I roll and wallow in sun-dried dusty earth, digging up iris roots, munching on fallen plums.

Patchouli and iris enter an Addams Family marriage. Earth, roots, stage makeup, dark chocolate... gloomy, dry, and very elegant.

My girlfriend's favorite scent. I find it a bit too earthy. Powdery iris, refined by violet and spicy plum. A whole lot of patch.

Earthy melancholy and dark sweet fruitiness. Elegant iris in the background.
Magnificent yet modest.
Beautiful.

Unharmonious and unpleasant on my skin. Iris-sandal + undefinable flowers + a note I find repulsive: patch. Room scent = lipstick powder.

An adult patchouli-plum scent. For those who find it too strong: save up a lot of money and switch to Ne m'Oubliez Pas.
