Green and fresh garden roses
I was a little dubious about Rose Splendide at first. I was wondering how Annick Goutal was going to manage another rose scent when it was already competing with Ce Soir Ou Jamais, Rose Absolue and Quel Amour! Rose Splendide has proven itself a different composition altogether, and one that I am happy to own a sample of.

Rose Splendide is in two words, fresh and green. The scent opens very garden-like, rather like the scent of a rose bush rather than the flower. There's even a slight hint of the soil, creating a strangely addictive naturalness. This seems to be a new trend with Annick Goutal, since their other 2010 release, Ninfeo Mio has a similar garden-like feel.

This fragrance is original and very unique. I have honestly never smelt a rose fragrance quite like this one. It takes a lot of getting used to, but after some time, Rose Splendide begins to grow on you.

Towards the heart, the pear is clearly noticeable, however it is more tart than sweet and fruity. It's like pureed pears and crushed red rose petals. As the scent settles, there's a subtle hint of sweet musk and powder.

This is obviously a fragrance that defies the stereotypical rose perfume. It aims to be breath-takingly beautiful and natural, like something you'd find in the wilderness, not bottled up with added synthetics and alcohol. I am amazed that Annick Goutal has gone in this direction, leaving behind its signature, old-fashioned vibe.

Rose Splendide's delicate, Spring-like vivaciousness is rather adorable as it sets itself apart from the fruitier rose in Quel Amour! The lasting power is rather good, however I am reviewing the EDP. This new release is worthy of a sniff from all rose lovers alike.

Nice, but not a soliflore...
I was a bit surprised to find that Annick Goutal ROSE SPLENDIDE is just as much about magnolia and pear as it is about rose. The opening does smell mostly of rose, but as the fragrance ("eau parfumée" is the concentration indicated on the manufacturer's produced sample"--not sure, actually what that means...) develops, the magnolia and the pear become much stronger. I'd say that the magnolia is on an equal footing with the rose for quite a while, but by the drydown, this ends up being a fairly fruity experience. Not overly sweet, but fruity enough to mention, since some people in the market for a "splendid rose" are bound to be disappointed by what they will regard as the adulterant pear in this composition.

ROSE SPLENDIDE is a fine, albeit simple fruity-floral fragrance. It smells very natural, and I would recommend this as a gift to younger perfume users, to help wean them off celebrity scents. It does not really hold a candle to some of the truly splendid truly and mostly rose perfumes readily available, but it is certainly pleasant to wear.

Magnificent Pear
Well, sorry, but if something is called Rose Splendide, or magnificent rose, it should at least smell a bit like rose.

Right upon spraying, a wonderful, rich ... pear scent spreads.

I love pears, that's not the issue. When I was a child, we had a very large pear tree at home that bore sugar pears. They looked like Williams pears in shape, were grass green on the outside but honey yellow, sweet, and juicy on the inside. This scent reminds me of those pears.

A little green comes in as well, and also a flower. But if this is supposed to be a magnificent rose, then I am the goddess Diana. It is a flower, simply a beautifully scented flower, without me being able to identify it. I really like it, I enjoy this pear-grass scent and it suits me. But the name is simply wrongly chosen, Mme. Goutal.

But the pear and the lovely green grass note are still there.

The longevity for me is no more than 2 hours. That is, with all due respect, simply outrageous for a 100 Euro fragrance. I can tolerate that with Red by A. Basi, but not with a scent from Goutal. Therefore, it only gets 70% from me.

I really like Annick Goutal fragrances, but I would only buy a few. This one definitely does not belong to that category, even though I like it.

I Wish I Were a Millionaire
and had a large cold room where I could collect and preserve all the delicious scents that are often taken off the market far too quickly.

Like Rose Splendide. This is a very extraordinary creation that excites me more with each application.
At first, I must admit, the scent rather irritated me, which may be due to the fact that one expects a distinct rose scent with that name. As described multiple times below, it turns out differently than one thinks. Right from the first spray, the pear takes center stage and forms a magical connection with the rather shy rose. In addition, I can still perceive a zesty-citrusy note that, as expected, quickly evaporates. Furthermore, I always have the impression of detecting a strong pinch of white pepper alongside the rosy pear, which tickles my nose.
This rose-pear-pepper trio remains unchanged until the end, and I can smell the fragrance all day long when sprayed on clothing. On my skin, it lasts about 5 hours, which I don't find too bad.

The combination of the fragrance components is special here, but very successful. Rose Splendide expresses pure joy of life for me, and I particularly love the scent in spring when the air is clean and fresh, and this ripe, juicy pear alongside the fine and noble rose fuels the anticipation of summer with its abundance and warmth.

It's a pity that it is no longer produced. Unless I manage to get my cold room in time, I will enjoy it as long as supplies last and keep it in loving memory, sigh...

Vinegar Rose
How many beautiful fragrance experiences would I have missed without knowledgeable sales staff. I would have quickly passed by this little gem just by glancing at the notes.
"Rose Splendide": How many radiant, sublime ones should this be now? The ladies from Goutal have already missed the mark a few times with naming, so let's keep looking -
Pear: Thanks, I still have enough "sweet and mushy" from Petite Chérie.
Magnolia? Maybe again when I've somewhat overcome my Yves Rocher Magnolia trauma from the 80s.

But what I have on my skin now is not exalted at all. It is delicate, fresh, small, and still very green behind the leaves. For me, this is not a gold medal-winning diva that has been fed with three types of pesticides even before budding.
I have a robust little vinegar rose on my skin, along with its healthy leaf green in equal measure. This strong impression of chlorophyll makes this perfume my absolute favorite rose scent.
No magnolia, no pear, no.
I breathe in in in in. I inhale until the CO2 partial pressure drops below the critical mark.
No magnolia, no pear, sorry.

Edit: We call the little beauty vinegar rose, in the north I believe they say apothecary rose. It is related to the Sylt rose, but as far as I know, not quite as prolific.

Lovely, natural smelling rose with a fresh pear-magnolia accord over a comfortable vanilla drydown. Very pretty.

Dad mows the lawn.
I'm sitting in the roses,
pulling and plucking weeds.
That's how it smells.
It softens my childhood trauma.
But, magnificent roses!

When things aren't going well, Rose Splendide surrounds me like a shower of pearls made of roses and crisp green pears. Fresh, bright, uplifting.

Charming combination of bright, watery rose (probably the magnolia, which could also be rose geranium in this mix) and fruit. Good!

A wild rose hedge frames fruit trees and bushes like in an old farmhouse garden. Bright, powdery, with lots of green + a few fruits mixed in.

Delicate powdery-fresh rose with a tart fruity note (pear with a lot of imagination) combined on a softly creamy base.
Perfect for everyday wear.

A juicy-fresh rose including leaves. Lots of pear, also juicy.
Fresh-sparkling-fresh-sweet-fruity-spicy.
The rose is the focus.

Very beautiful delicate rose with freshly cut grass... totally in the spring spirit! Surprisingly, I don't smell any pear/magnolia. Always suitable.
