Iris and pepper, superbly done
Happyland Shadowland is the delightfully orris-rich, peppery fresh blend that is one of the best examples of EJ’s magic in crafting something brilliant that makes me enjoy a genre that I’m generally not a fan of—specifically, powdery iris fragrances. This fragrance definitely is still a bit of a powdery iris fragrance, but it’s so expertly blended with (above all else) pepper but also lavender, bergamot, sandalwood, jasmine, and musk. It includes sharpness while still being smooth—in other words, sharp but not too sharp—and has a lively spiciness throughout. It smells niche, classy, unisex, and quite strong, particularly at the opening. Definitely among Happyland’s best and most unique, even with the successor Mad Anthony that is in a slightly similar vein, and priced superbly like the rest of the house, at $55/42 for 50/30ml, sold through the website.
