Beautiful boozy bourbon mix with some intrigue
This is my first wearing of the latest Happyland Release, Cripple Creek, a mix of notes (quoting from the website) of “bourbon, ambrette, oak, amber, musk, caramel, ambergris, and a dash of lime and rose.” It fittingly smells of brown liquors, woods, a sharp sweetness, and a bit of lime, really balancing out the bourbon cocktail vibe very effectively with the citrus. It’s full but not overbearing, dark enough for the evening but with enough freshness for the day time. I really dig it.

A couple of semi-close comparisons are Rasei Fort Cielito Lindo (based on tequila, rather than bourbon, and less sweet) and Imaginary Authors Saint Julep (a bit sweeter, with more mint than citrus, but similarly based on bourbon), but Cripple Creek is still very much its own, mostly unique creation, with a different feel from either of the abovementioned.

It performs very well, quite dense and strong, and has the still highly-reasonable pricing of $55/42 for 50/30ml, often with further discounts available.

Overall, Cripple Creek is excellent, serving fans of boozy fragrances who nonetheless enjoy the nod toward something a bit classic (a little woods, spice, citrus, rose) while feeling quite innovative on its own. Easily full bottle worthy from one wearing.

boozy, jammy, sweet rose
This opens boozy and floral then develops a warm richness before the rose rises to the surface as the star. This is closer to the skin than some Happylands. It is a little more feminine though unisex. Almost a jammy rose with a twist that is a little woody and sultry with some amber weaving through. It gives it almost a tobacco vibe.
