Simple and Beautiful
How seriously should one take citrus scents? It is clear - this is the small form: no elaborate complexity, no experimental compositions, and no exciting development. Actually, there is just one citrus note and not much else. And yet - between household cleaner and Nimm-2 candies, I find it incredibly difficult to create a citrus scent that does not directly remind one of either. That too is an art.
With the Eau de Cologne Cédrat by Nicolai, this has succeeded. The citron lemon belongs to the more intense and stronger plants in the citrus category - not everyone will appreciate that. I also can't really warm up to it. But the note is beautiful, refreshing, strong, with a very slight herbal touch. It is a yellow, juicy lemon that is presented here, nothing dusty-powdery like Acqua di Parma Colonia. Gradually, it does acquire a certain lightness and transparency, so that after a while a fairly balanced picture emerges. Eau de Cologne Cédrat strikes exactly the balance between strong lemon and transparent elegance. In any case, this is a lovely summer scent, although I would prefer it to be a bit less straightforward. What can you do, it doesn’t have to please me, yet it is well made.
Fans of uncomplicated citrus scents will find here an unspectacular but high-quality perfume.
In addition to "Cologne Cédrat," the Nicolai website lists a "Cedrat Intense." Whether this is the same scent in a different concentration is not clear. Thanks to Duftstick for the sample!

Addendum: Upon inquiry, my sample contained the Cédrat Intense version.
