The transformation of the childlike taurs
Speechless, the cattle eyes followed the misty fog rising from the floors of the stables, which floated upward in slow motion with shimmering streaks of light from ethereal resins along the furrows in the moldy beams into the arched, rotten wooden ceilings, whose soft fibers began to sparkle dark blond golden like cinnamon dust beneath them. Soon, flakes of warm vanilla with fluff from Virginia tobacco threads and wafer-thin weaves of liquid amber fell onto the leathery skin of the childlike taurs, who, transformed into half-beings, now turned their gaze to the oriental vaults, feeling the cozy warmth of kitchens with cinnamon and vanilla porridge carpets, the dim flickering in gentlemen's rooms, the embers in the fireplace made of resinous pearls, the heavy wooden panels under earth-colored skies on the sepia pictures from grandmother's time in leather photo albums.

The fragrances from Laurent Smal's London-based house are compositions made from raw materials of the highest quality and radiance, which, hour after hour, layer after layer, release the various qualities of the ingredients in an evocative way, surrounding the wearer with inner images and a precious aura, which is naturally reflected in the price.
“Opulence” addresses the theme of rich abundance in a very unique way. The opening is characterized by animalic and woody-resinous notes. There is the animalic musk of ambrette in the barnyard-like, rotten oud, which in turn releases light, ethereal, almost adhesive resins like streaks of light, reminding me of the oud, or rather the mixture, that Smal used in “AG I.” In the heart, warm notes of light tobacco and vanilla (ambergris) are added and flow smoothly into a vanilla-like, cinnamon-like styrax resin, which in turn is infused with dark bourbon vanilla with a light tonka texture. Associations with a childhood scent of porridge refined with real vanilla come up now and then, but framed by amber-colored resins and the soft echo of leathery, animalistic, slightly earthy, smoky woods and tobacco ambergris, filling the evening and wonderfully lulling.
