Perfect weather for a visit to the sea
Cedar, saltwater and translucent green algae – the cute frilly kind. A splash of amber, like weathered sea glass glistening in the sunlight. The gooey sweetness it adds to the composition feels a little odd, but I can live with that. Playful and bright. A sunny spring morning – lovely and warm, and just early enough in the season so that there's no tourists around. Just you and the shore (realistically, also at least two old men who are really into winter swimming).

A roomful of sillage at the start. Fades out over the first ~2 hours and settles in the wearer's immediate vicinity. Takes another ~4 to settle on skin entirely. Once there – lasts through the night and into the morning.

It's a lovable scent, though I'd personally prefer it to have less amber. It doesn't quite mix with the rest of the composition, and I find it distracting more than anything else. But the algae note is absolutely delightful and vibrant, and the shore I imagine is clean and enveloped in soft salty breeze.

Doesn't change much with time. I start the day at the seashore, and as I drift off to sleep ~11 hours later – my skin still smells of clear sky and calm sea. A whole day of unchanging perfect weather. A treasured rarity.

Through the time that it lasts, I write down several times that it's quite beautiful, really! But something is missing. Everything is so still and perfect that it doesn't feel real. I find myself missing the original Le Sel d'Issey Eau de Toilette. As with everything else in life, it's a matter of opinion and personal preference, but to me it doesn't smell in any way similar. It's marine, yes, but in a completely different weather and season. Much colder and heavy on thick pungent kelp. Disgusting. Delicious.

This version is much more smooth, rounded and conventionally attractive. I can see the appeal. But personally – I'm uninterested. I wish there was something more than just pretty clean face to it.

The Ocean, Warmed by Skin
Le Sel d’Issey isn’t your usual aquatic - it’s alive, intimate, and utterly compelling. The opening hits with a crisp, mineral-rich saltiness, like seaweed on wet rocks, fresh and invigorating. Then it softens, blending into warm amber, smouldering wood, and a hint of incense. Fresh meets earthy, cool meets warm, wild meets elegant.

It never shouts, yet it lingers, alive on the skin for hours, creating a quietly magnetic aura. Wearing it feels like holding a secret - the ocean, distilled, intimate, and unforgettable.

A Dream Come True...
... I am spending a few days on vacation in Takahagi, a small coastal town in Japan, and I see the northern Pacific Ocean from Takado Kohama Beach. I had picked up some sushi beforehand and am now enjoying it here on the beach while the waves wash over my feet. Along with that, a cold green tea. This nearly empty beach and the sea create a sense of relaxation. How beautiful it is.

When applying this fragrance, the first thing you notice is a fresh citrusy scent (even though no citrus fruits are listed in the fragrance pyramid) that merges with green algae, salt, and sea. Slowly, resinous, mossy, and woody accords begin to dominate, adding a masculine touch to the scent. Over time, the fragrance becomes dry.

The longevity and sillage are good.

Here, the house of Issey Miyake has created a gentleman's fragrance that gives men a certain masculine boldness. Since this scent is quite mature and masculine, I would recommend wearing it starting around mid-twenties, open to older ages. I see this fragrance less suited for women. Of course, everyone must try it for themselves. This is a perfume for warm and hot days. It can be worn well during the day in a suit with an open shirt at the office, in a meeting, or simply at a meal. It is certainly also elegant in jeans with a white shirt and leather shoes. In the evening, it radiates elegance at a concert, theater, dinner, in a club, or bar.

Anyone who enjoys a fresh citrusy, salty, green, aquatic, resinous, and mossy scent has a great chance of finding a wonderful fragrance here and having fun with it.

What do pebbles by the sea actually smell like?
I love to explore the surroundings on the first day of vacation, and I usually prefer to wander around, letting myself drift and seeing where it takes me! That's what vacation means to me-walking around without any time pressure and simply letting the impressions wash over me.

This is exactly how I feel about Le Sel d'Issey! Because often on the first day, I also stroll along the beach promenade. The scent of the sea, which I haven't smelled in a while, and the warm, hot stones or pebbles that somehow contribute to the overall fragrance. And that's how Le Sel d'Issey is; it smells salty, slightly mineral (which I associate with stones or pebbles), yet it is also incredibly fresh, as if just coming out of the shower.

Quentin Bisch has created a wonderful fragrance at a designer level that beautifully conveys the theme of vacation! Great respect for that.

I think the seaweed provides the freshness, the oak moss adds the mineral aspect, while warmth and depth come from amber and incense. Simply brilliantly executed.

H/S are absolutely convincing for a designer who is truly casting his feelers towards niche.

Decide for yourselves.

From Freshie to Noble Enduring Day Fragrance
Le Sel d'Issey Eau de Toilette was and still is a really good freshie with a great salty aquatic note. Probably at the current prices, it's also a fragrance I would consider getting as a cool, casual no-brainer. With this DNA, Quentin Bisch has once again proven that he can create these catchy DNAs. I was eagerly anticipating this EdP, which brings significantly more depth and has transformed from a sporty freshie to a fresh-spicy day fragrance with endurance. Price-wise, this release is still quite expensive, as it has just been launched. However, in a few months, it will be considerably cheaper like most of the offerings from the Issey Miyake brand. Currently, the prices are also reasonable since you get quite a lot for your money. I find this DNA quite catchy again, just like most of Bisch's creations. I think it's cool that the original DNA has been incorporated here, and it truly deserves the term flanker.

The packaging and bottle are quite elegant and significantly more modern than the outdated flankers from the L'eau D'Issey line. The color gradient with the light and dark shades is also quite fitting for this fragrance progression.
In terms of scent, this EdP clearly aligns with the EdT. The salty aquatic note is very present here as well and impresses with a certain casualness and a very unique note that doesn't smell like every other freshie. Here, much more depth comes to the forefront, along with significantly spicier notes that transform this fragrance into a noble day scent. A wonderful salty note, aquatic and algae notes give this fragrance a fantastic aquatic character that feels very elegant and not synthetic. Additionally, there is a lovely cedarwood note. Frankincense is also present here, but in a very gentle manner and not really smoky. Amber adds a bit of warmth, yet far from making it a heavy scent. The fragrance feels very elegant and is a great companion for everyday wear and throughout the year. It is an all-rounder, as you get a wonderful mix of freshness, spiciness, wood, and light warmth. The feel-good factor is high here, and it will likely be prone to compliments like much of Bisch's work.
Performance is quite good and impresses me totally for everyday use. The scent easily lasts through a workday, and it will also score points in other situations. The sillage is also quite good, and you are noticed, making you feel comfortable.

Overall, it's already an upgrade, although you can certainly own both. This one is of course significantly nobler and more elegant, while the original is a bit more casual. Overall, a fantastic salty DNA.

The olibanum base calls to mind various Bisch-Amouages but skeletal in nature. Without context I can see the execution lacking. Not so bad.

A bit saltier but much more resinous than the EDT & lasts pretty long - it's like an easier version of Navis

Same but different. I already have edt version and can't see there's real need for this one.
Update: Starting to love this after each try.

Feels curious right after Hermann a mes cotes, same nose and all. Bisch does this fresh raw resin well but here it's like sweaty driftwood.

One of the best fresh aquatic marine fragrance. After some hour it smells the same as TF oud minerals

Could smell a uriney note early on. After, a light salty floral ocean or like a spa that just cleaned its floors after a seaweed treatment.

One of the best releases of 2025 - it's absolutely gorgeous. A warmer version of the EDT with a touch of sweetness, it's brilliant

This one is much heavier and less fresh than the EdT. The main focus here is definitely on the warm, powdery amber note.

Softer and less sharp than the EDT. Really nice and fresh.
