Long Pause
Strangely bitter-fresh-needly it begins. Pine needles, spirit of wine, and resin. Something mushroomy-woody-green is lurking beneath. I find this quite Nordic and by no means oriental. A shift is hinted at as soon a bit of warm smoke breaks through. Mild, spicy, sweet. Finally, a civet-pee animalic stirs. But first, a hint of jasmine, more bright than opulent, can then be considered the fulfillment of the promise given by the name. Its appearance reminds me of that in Epic Woman & Co. A trace of lily-of-the-valley sweetness can be sensed, but it is not prominent.
But: hardly begun, the Orient trip is already over. For soon a kind of light wood with a nutty addition appears, along with a diffuse fruity note, which will likely be the rose. I would have guessed (at least also) melon without support. Watery. As it progresses, the light-nutty note hovers vaguely between wood and leather - nothing is complete and nothing is entirely absent. Garnished with a distantly muted floral residual sweetness from the sugar snap pea corner and a pinch of smoke. Only directly on the skin can I still discover something animalic, there, however, quite distinctly. Pause. Long pause. End? Is that it already?
And finally, as evening approaches, an idea of more approachable (sandalwood?) sweetness glides into the fragrance, giving the peculiar wood-leather duality a certain touch of commitment that I had long been waiting for. Nevertheless, the overall picture does not fully excite me.
I thank Verbena for the sample.
