Burning Piano Nose of Gatsby 2023 Eau de Parfum

Smelling this on a test strip at Gatsby's Pike Place Market booth, the initial blast of smoked wood is potent, but quite nice. It mellows out with the dry down, with the smoke settling and a light touch of rose and leather coming through. A really nice fall/winter choice, especially for those who enjoy smoky scents a la T-rex, LiTA, etc. This was an Art and Olfaction Awards Honorable Mention in 2024.

It went way too fast. Only a small spark was needed. And the flames struck the sky.
I knew you would. What you set out to do, you implement. You've always kept your word.
It should be a last concert. A difficult path. With your piano in the cart to the beach.
How much strength did it cost us?!
How much strength did your life cost you?
Exhaustion and sadness flow into the last notes.
Chopin.
The waves take the sounds out into the vastness. To the horizon. Colored red by the setting sun.
"That's the end."
Broken voice. Trembling hands.
A little spark. Burning sounds. Tearing strings. Flames and waves. Embers. Ash.
And still waves.
They don't stop.
It's not the end.

Gatsby tells stories with his scents. This fragrance is reminiscent of artists who, despite great talent, have remained unsuccessful throughout their lives. Only after their death does their art receive due appreciation. Here he picks up the feelings of a pianist who consciously ends his career and his dream at the end of his life.

The scent turns the story around. He starts with a flaming inferno. The smoke almost overwhelms me. Nothing else. Only fire. Very slowly more facets are added. Sharp tones flash up. Metallic. Woody, dark. Leather? Can be. Rose, Iris? I can't perceive them in a differentiated way. Maybe they are the ones who give the fragrance strength and perspective. In the base I feel it is strong, serious, woody, encouraging.

An extreme fragrance experience. This goes with you into the deep abysses. Does not stop there. But very slowly and powerfully reappears.
A perfume? Rather not.
An impressive experience? Absolutely!
