Golden Smoke
When a new Pontiff is elected, it is said that white smoke rises. However, I have yet to discover when golden smoke ascends to the heavens. In any case, there is a hint of golden smoke in Incense Gold from the brand Riiffs, which was completely unknown to me until now. This fine oriental fragrance came as a surprise from dear Ergoproxy. Frankincense often works well for me, so it's not surprising that I find this scent beautiful.
However, it is not the frankincense that captivates me. It is this delicate, cuddly soft vanilla paired with a beautiful orange blossom. I can't help but think of Meringa by Profumum Roma, which combines these two notes equally beautifully. While Meringa is an absolutely harmony-seeking, cuddly little scent, Incense Gold has a real edge to it. This is partly due to the frankincense, which allows the fragrance to drift a bit into the contemplative from the lovely, sweet, and cozy side, and also due to the saffron, which is not exactly used sparingly here.
After a while, I can clearly recognize parallels to the stunningly beautiful and unfortunately discontinued Exotic by Boadicea. While this one remained a brief introduction - I didn't want to engage with it further since it is discontinued and absolutely hard to find - I could dare a closer acquaintance here. Completely without risk. And that’s exactly what I did.
I can absolutely recommend this fine oriental fragrance, although I won’t be purchasing it myself. Because all in all, it is a bit too much saffron for my taste. Those who love saffron should definitely give it a try, as it starts to emerge from the heart note and gradually becomes more intense and persistent. Unfortunately, the delicate orange blossom retreats a bit too early for my liking. And the vanilla can't quite hold its own against the saffron here. It holds its ground until the end, while the vanilla gradually becomes a bit fainter.
I can also very well understand the comparison with the Widian Gold Collection II Sahara, although Incense Gold has significantly less need for expression here, yet it also lasts very long in the end.
A beautiful composition that I have enjoyed getting to know. Many thanks to Ergoproxy for the opportunity to test it.
