Not a Great Party for Limes

This party begins with tart lime juice, almost too tart, like that RealLime admixture you can find in the grocery store in a plastic lime. Sadly, this lime fades away quickly, as I feared it would. What comes next is disaster. First, the smell of dryer cotton or fresh linen turned up to eleven. Then, toilet deodorizer. Last, a faint musk, offering an apology for the horrid turn of events. The musk is apologetic party host, offering mea culpas for the two scummy friends of her brother she had to invite. At any rate, the resulting aroma is faint. This is not a great party for limes, and longevity is under six hours.

Blue Monday

It could have been so beautiful:
Sicilian limes on coarse sea salt, a cooling evening breeze from the coast at the end of a sweltering hot day...a dream of the south, drowned in margaritas.

Hope remains alive for a short time after spraying - a top note more that stimulates the senses and elicits a nod of appreciation for the creative idea - before the synthetic disappointment quickly and relentlessly pushes to the forefront. Instead of sinking into fresh, crisp summer vibes, I find myself up to my neck in the horror that answers to the name Ambroxan. Accompanying this primary antagonist is a pinch of spice and a handful of aquatic notes, which cannot be blamed for their inherent synthetics, but in this case, they do not help either.
Are there any heroic saviors rushing to help? Unfortunately, none. According to the manufacturer, it is supposed to contain three pounds of real fruit. Whether that is relatively much or little, I cannot assess right now, but I would have wished to at least be able to smell some of it.

It remains a mix of Shelter Island, Molecule 01, and AdG Profumo. Not my thing.
Thus, dreams burst on Italian Mediterranean islands.

And yet I had already put on the perfect soundtrack for the concept.
Mary Roos sang in 1970 in her charmingly kitschy German version of Mas Que Nada “Blue Monday” the conclusion to the scent:

Blue Monday, why did this Sunday have to end?
Why do you leave for a stranger?
And all that’s left for me is the samba.

Salty Sea Air

Early on, at the beginning of my fragrance journey, I had actually given up on "ocean scents." Aquatic fragrances come in different variations like sand on the beach; sometimes I liked them more, sometimes less, but never on me.
That the association of the sea can also, and in my opinion much more authentically, be achieved from a different direction, namely from a salty accord combined with citrus notes, I only learned through this forum. Prominent examples would be Heeley's "Sel Marin" and "Sel de Vetiver" by The Different Company.

Sicilian Limes smells primarily salty after the somewhat synthetic lime top note dissipates. It goes so far that I imagine a mild hint of the burning sensation that occurs when you get seawater up your nose. The citrus envelops the scent impression more, with the salt clearly taking center stage here. I do not perceive an algae note; instead, rosemary provides green tones that symbolize coastal vegetation rather than water plants. For my part, I think of the dense, robust growth of dunes as well as salt marshes. I also perceive something dry, warm, almost amber-like, which for me wonderfully symbolizes the sand at the beach, warmed by the sun. A hint of a metallic note provides a gentle breeze.

The scent is predominantly salty fresh, with the freshness increasingly coming from a green rather than a citrus direction. This perfume truly manages in a wonderful way to evoke the carefree feeling of a quiet summer day without goals and stress at the beach in my memory.
Unfortunately, the sillage is very low, perceptible to others only in close proximity.

Even Johann Wolfgang von Goethe could ask this question without hearing a "Of course!" in response!
In the meantime, we no longer have to travel to Sicily to enjoy ripe and aromatic citrus fruits.
And yet, they are still something very special there.
I am not only thinking of the wonderful "Sicilian or Amalfi lemon," which is large, bright yellow, and fruity.
There, along the Amalfi Coast, these fruits provide for the livelihoods of entire families, who go to the large lemon groves during harvest time; sometimes secured with ropes that keep these human chamois from falling, as the cliffs are steep in some places.
The beauty of these fruits can also be found as rustic paintings on plates and jugs, and particularly often on floor tiles that adorn many hotel terraces, enhancing the Mediterranean summer feeling even further.

When I was in Sicily shortly before Christmas, coming from Malta and visiting the "Archaeological Park" near Syracuse, I was able to admire these citrus trees in large plantations.
Together with pines and cypresses, they and their numerous relatives from the large family of the Hesperides make up the green and shady vegetation of this area.
The ripe, bright green and yellow fruits enjoyed not only the radiant winter sun among the leaves of the trees; there was also a lot of "windfall" lying around. Visitors were allowed to take this for free.
Since I was flying back home from Malta the next afternoon, I packed a selection of these fruits (whatever variety) into a plastic bag, which I brought to my mom on Christmas Eve.
She loved everything that was sour and salty. And she spent a large part of that Christmas holiday with these sour fruits; all the other gifts played only a minor role.
Her apartment now smelled not of oranges and mandarins studded with cloves, but of lemony freshness.

This citrusy, invigorating freshness greets me immediately after the first spray of "Sicilian Limes."
I can instantly see myself sitting in the shade of the numerous citrus trees, the light summer breeze playing in their leaves, and beneath me lies the sea: today smooth, like an aquamarine silk cloth, or on another day lively, throwing its seahorse waves against the white cliffs.
The air vibrates with salty zest for life, which transfers to me: oh, how lovely!
Large dark green rosemary bushes are drowsing, spreading their needles in the warmth; not without releasing their strong aroma with every imagined breath of pleasure.
This refreshingly spicy and so light breeze that is now playing around me mixes with the earthy exhalations of the moss cushions on which I sit.
That alone makes the difference from most citrus scents:
"Sicilian Limes" is wonderfully originally spicy and invigorating.
Even the cedar wood, stacked in the sun and waiting for its use, does not want to hold back now: it completes this summery impression with its woody silk scent!

"Sicilian Limes" is another example of the interesting and mostly fruity scents from the brand "Shay & Blue."
I like many of them very much; "Framboise Noire" even made it into my collection (thanks to Gerdi, who sent me her bottle)!
Of course, they are replaceable, but they are also beautiful due to their inventive combinations of scent notes, which distinguish them from other summer delights and thus are not so easily exchanged!

I have found a cheerful companion for warm summer days here and joyfully see "Limonetta and Rosmaria," the two fresh-spicy friends, happily dancing on the beach - surrounded by its sparkling water droplets!
And what do they still dance to in Sicily?
Of course, Tarantella!

Sunny-Sparkling Summer Breeze

I spray, and I'm met with a rush of aromatic freshness. Immediately, the scent of yellow and green citrus fruits comes through, powerful and rounded. They do not cut through the air in a penetrating way but unfold quite naturally.
But this is not a pure, clear citrus impression, no. Already in the top note and upon contact with the skin, there is the salt that tingles and vibrates, making everything interesting.
I never would have thought that salt has a scent correspondence. Here, however, I actually think of coarse sea salt, which, when rolled between the fingers, produces the sound of rubbing salt crystals.
Woven into this seems to be rosemary, which gives the salty citrus flair its spice and allows this aromatic-fresh scent to emerge. This dish tastes good!

If I spray it on at 7 in the morning, I can still perceive it pleasantly until 1 PM. It makes a good impression in my active job; as my body temperature rises, the citrus notes shine beautifully without the spice becoming overwhelming. The warm base of woods and soft moss lies carefree on the lazy skin.

I like this scent; it is so light and easy, yet it has enough character and recognizability. It is not a perfectly balanced designer fragrance like Armani Profumo (which I also like), and it doesn't aim to be. For me, it is simply a spicy-citrusy mood lifter that lets me leave the house in the morning as if it were second nature, play driving music in the car, and then face the world.
