Whispers of floral between the branches
One of the most unique combinations of fir and Iris. It opens with a pungent herbaceous fir and spruce. There is a resinous sap that touches down immediately after. Lavender and Iris merge into one and brighten what is otherwise a wet series of branches. The dry down is a bright and creamy woods. A delightful Washington day filled with sprinkles of rain as you walk through the forests. Sunlight streaming through the clouds for fleeting moments. A peaceful and calming fragrance. Beautiful and has me wanting to try more from the house. 9/10
A gorgeous spiced vetiver
One of the best takes on a spiced vetiver and patchouli. The opening is fresh spiced gingerbread with chunks of fresh ginger. The dry down pulls out the vetiver and patchouli. Incredibly well blended. It’s sexy and dark with just the right amount of gourmand. Not cloying or yeasty like I might have expected. Gender neutral. It is like a hot mug of spiced tea after a day in the snow. Exactly what is needed. Will absolutely be full sizing. 10/10
Blanche no-thank-you
Let me start by saying that there is something about this fragrance that conjures a series of visceral negative reactions upon first application and throughout its dry down. It is a "beast mode" fragrance that I would group as having more mature qualities. Think a mid-40's woman your divorced dad begins dating, who pretends to like you, even though you know you will never like one another. Someone you hate to put up with because you know you have no say in the matter. Heady and over stimulating, it projects into the next solar system, wiping out every good thing in its current system. It is less vanilla, instead a spoiled bowl of white florals and grandmother's body powder on the skin. An absolute no. I shudder thinking of it again. 0/10.
For those who like CDG Concrete
It is a wet day in Tokyo and you are walking through the city streets on your way to work. The opening is powdery and dry, like the feeling of running your hand against of ready-made concrete walls. Iris transforms within the dry down as the musks and tonka begin to develop within the greens from geranium. For those who liked CDG Concrete, The Beige feels like a cousin you see at family gatherings every couple of years. Similar but not the same. Gender neutral, it is a fragrance that would be worn by Jill Sander and Margaret Howell enthusiasts. 8.5/10
Synthetic and Chemical Yeast
Having heard raving reviews for years, I finally gave crumb couture a test. What I was expecting was a slightly yeasty gourmand most like the waft of bread you might have while in another room. What I experienced was instead a synthetic, cloying, and artificial loaf of bread. The opening is highly synthetic with a strong alcohol kick. The yeast is overwhelming much like sourdough dough after sitting on a counter in the summer. The berry is unrecognizable. The dry down is pure cloying yeast mixed with a bit of old potpourri all followed by a highly chemical base note. Not photorealistic to me. Safe to say this was not for me. 2/10
