Pigs in Space
"Log entry 203/2089: Briefly outside, a solar sail got jammed. Fortunately, it was quickly fixed and we were able to return to the space station promptly. In the airlock, the usual, tedious procedure and then out of the spacesuit. In the air lingers this scent that we would never perceive outside, because outside is the vacuum of infinity. But here, in Earth-like atmosphere, the infiltrated molecules are enough to give us an impression of this smell: the scent of exploding, imploding masses of rock, of gas, of endless expanse, the smell of space. End of log."
"Bowman, did you smell that? Are there cows in space?"
"Cows? Not that I know of, I remember pigs. Pigs in space."
"Then I'm relieved because it smells like bacon. And Pattex. And new sneakers."

It (space) smells, according to Alexander Gerst, awe-inspiring.
I don't know if this scent is actually designed to be wearable.
I think rather it is an experiment. It is meant to prepare astronauts for what they might smell when they are out there. Real astronauts contributed their experiences during the development. This is not a concept fragrance, no idea of what it could smell like up there -
this is a reproduction of what astronauts have actually perceived, if we believe the startup.
And maybe what we smell here is indeed what remains in such an airlock after walking in space - no one among us can verify that. Ever.
And somehow that makes it exciting.
Even if you wouldn't want to smell like that in everyday life.
So be sure to join us next time when Miss Piggy says:
"And at the next Big Bang, we'll mix in a bit of Shalimar, it can only get better!"

Characterbuilding
Two (or even three) years ago, when I made a fragrance purchase at Breuninger, there was a sample of Sunshine included. It somehow ended up on my wrist and could only convince me moderately: thin almond sludge with some shallow floral nonsense and such.
Can such a dull, flat fragrance cost so much?!
That's the thing!
But something kept me from tossing the sample, because at some point during the process, I thought, hmm, but there’s something there, something that could be exciting...no idea what, but I’ll set it aside for later, for the "you’re wobbly, you have to give it your all next time if you want a photo" candidates.
There it stood. For a long time. A veeeeery long time. And could reflect on everything and reconsider its performance.
And yesterday, out of sheer lockdown boredom, it stumbled back onto my wrist.
I don’t want to ramble on - it knocked me out after a long journey!
Wow. What was going on back then, two (or even three) years ago?!
Can taste/sense of smell change so much?
Or has the fragrance simply matured, was it too fresh back then?
Did it need to settle into its little glass bottle first?
No idea. But: such beauty!!!
Sunbeams in a bottle, warm-vanilla, liqueur-like, a very light tobacco in a lady-like expression and so many layers of "I have no idea what it is but it smells great," perfectly balanced for me without becoming sweet or heavy, and, very importantly: nothing annoys!
It just smells incredibly beautiful of summer, sunshine, Ihaveaphotoforyou.
You can definitely applaud that.
I want it.
The end.
