An Anomaly for this Line
A very pretty, summery rose fragrance that has that same tart peppery rose I fell in love with in Dior Rose Gipsy and Jimmy Choo edt., both of which I already have. It is a little closer to the Jimmy Choo because of the fruit notes, but as in that fragrance, they are not very pronounced here. As this wears on it becomes more delicate, but still has presence. It smells great in cold weather, but I think might smell even prettier in warmer weather.
If I didn't already have similar perfumes, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a bottle not only because I love the rose and pink pepper notes, but because the performance, especially for something in this line, is surprisingly good.

Pretty but Synthetic Jasmine
This is very pretty but contrary to the name it is not primarily a jasmine fragrance, though jasmine is the main note. It also has a lovely fresh honeysuckle opening and a sweet orange blossom that becomes much more pronounced on the dry down, almost wearing at times more like an orange blossom fragrance than a jasmine one.
On initial spray I was very surprised by comparisons I've read elsewhere to the much cheaper alternative, Jasmin Full by Al Rehab. I shouldn't have been though, as this, like that fragrance, also has a lab created jasmine in it. I'm not opposed to that as there are plenty of fragrances I love with synthetic jasmine in them, but for a fragrance where it is supposed to be showcasing that note I prefer that note to be real.

Lilacs by the Ocean?
This is pretty. It smells like the scent of lilacs in the breeze. But there is also a saltiness running underneath that I don't care for, and that dreaded cucumber/calone note I cannot stand in most perfumes. I pick it up strongly here.
Aquatic, ozonic, slightly earthy from the wheat note. If they were trying to capture the scent of lilac bushes blooming near the ocean, they've nailed it. If you like that type of profile, you've found it here. Personally, I prefer my lilacs to be heady and sweet. That is missing here. I'll put this sample away to try again next spring and summer. Maybe it will smell different to me then.

Would It Be Better Sprayed On?
I tested this from a complimentary towelette enclosed in a Fragonard catalogue. I appreciate that the mimosa isn't overly sweet but there is an underlying scent that is almost chemical. I wish I knew what was causing that. Bad blending or notes that clash?
While convenient, the towelette doesn't exactly give the full experience of the perfume, so maybe that is the issue. I suspect this might have to be sprayed on to get the full measure. Since I am not the biggest fan of mimosa or lilac in the first place, except in a few rare instances, I'm not willing to buy a bottle to find out.

Fragrance Does Not Match the Name or Packaging
One would think with a name like the Roman Night and an elegant black bottle that this would be a dark and mysterious fragrance. But other than the name and the bottle, there is nothing dark here. It is just a simple fruity floral fragrance.

I have tried three fragrances from the Goldea line and find not one stands out. Though simply pretty, they are also somewhat generic, which is a surprise considering the great
Albertos Morillas created them. I have a travel sprayer of this particular scent and while I think this is the nicest out of this line, I don't like it enough to invest in a full bottle.

Mulberry, which I am not a big fan of as it has a very syrupy sweet profile, is the most prominent note, with a mixture of barely there floral notes. The black pepper does nothing to offset the sweetness of the mulberry. It just adds a light aromatic quality. Though patchouli is listed, I am not getting that at all, nor anything earthy, which might have been an improvement. I was hoping that the night blooming jasmine and tuberose would be a little more prominent, but they are not. I do enjoy the musky dry down but can only smell it when I sniff my wrist. Longevity is pretty poor too. I only got about two hours of silage before it became a skin scent.

When I think of a night perfume, I think of something dramatic, maybe even a little animalic. If they had increased the jasmine and tuberose and toned down the mulberry, this might have fallen into that class. As it is, this is just a day wear type scent, which might work well for someone needing to wear something low key, like at work or someplace where you'll be in close quarters. I highly doubt it will offend anyone because I don't think many people will be able to smell it unless they get very close to you. Overall, while this is okay for a daytime scent, if you are looking for something sexy and mysterious, look elsewhere as this is not it. I suggest you try this before you buy.
