Pure Jasmine
If there’s anything I love more than a great oriental, it’s a wonderful Jasmine perfume, this one especially. In my Jasmine Sniff Fest (see my blog), Montale’s Jasmin Full won against enthralling finalists: Serge Lutens A La Nuit, Creed’s Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie, Demeter’s Jasmine, Diptyque’s Olene, Odalisque by Nicolai, La Route d’Emeraude, Magnetic Scent Untitled # 1 and Enlevement au Serail by MDCI — each so glorious I bought them all. Yet even among these beauties, Jasmin Full stands out. It is a true Jasmin Soliflore, brightened by honeysuckle, sweetened by orange blossom. Somehow these two make the Jasmin more itself. I’m sure it’s Jasmine Sambac, rather than the Grandiflora, because I don’t smell the Grandiflora's treasured animalic stank. When to wear it? When life lets you down, or up. In the summer, in the spring. While drinking champagne. To this Jasmine-lover, Montale Jasmin Full is the next best thing to being in a Sambac Jasmine field at dawn.

Heavy floral
Thats sweet jasmin touched by orange flowers.

Kind of a linear scent, without big evolution through drydown.

Great sillage, great projection and lasting power (about 10 hours easily).

Most suitable to women and for colder months.

Worth a try for who likes florals.

Jasmine Soliflore Par Excellence
The King of Flowers has made his entrance! And on my skin, what a voluptuously magnificent entrance it is! This is heady and potent stuff! Richly luscious white floral heaven for those who seek it! A hint of orange blossom peeking out for just the barest tad of soapy freshness. A middling dose of honeysuckle twining through the blend to add a whiff of spicy complexity.

That being said, I am amused statements I have heard from some others about it smelling like jasmine “oils”. The natural scent is almost never extracted by enfleurage anymore. There is generally speaking, only jasmine absolute of various types. And yes of course this soliflore will smell similar to them, that IS the whole point of a soliflore is it not? That is why Montale names it JASMINE FULL no? And what kind of jasmine absolute are we referring to anyway? Jasmine grandiflorum, Jasmine sambac, Jasmine auriculatum…?

They all smell different and are all made in absolute of varying batch qualities with a nice dose of indoles included. None that I have smelled are anywhere near being an identical substitute for this Montale beauty. I smell that Montale has made this a complex mixture of various jasmine absolute accords with the nasty indoles deleted, and created a jasmine soliflore par excellence. In comparison to other jasmine soliflores, this one rules over them all by far on my skin.

This perfume is a jasmine soliflore done at its best. No added sickening sweetness beyond that which is held within the plants themselves. No gourmand excess. No overweighted woody or resinous base to obscure the pure floral splendor. And yes, it is a synthetic (hedione- methyl dihydrojasmonate) jasmine. No nasty fecal indoles to mar the splendor and the perfect balance of this creation. Sometimes synthetic is far better. Amen. The list of superlatives I could heap upon this work of art is endless, and on my skin and to my nose they would all be the god honest truth.

Opulent, profoundly floral, sumptuously elegant, luxurious, sensuous, splendid…..I could go on and on. This brings to mind a Tang Dynasty Chinese Empress lounging about in her garden dressed in layers of lavishly embroidered silks, enjoying the summer breeze that is wafting the fragrant waves of freshly blossoming jasmine and honeysuckle vines over her as she smiles, closes her eyes, and inhales deeply.

Montale has fashioned a tour de force of a jasmine soliflore perfume here, and I am completely enchanted. For what this white floral masterpiece is, and for what it achieves on my skin, it is well worth the price to me. Bravo and thank you Pierre Montale.

All under control
In this jasmin soliflor, Montale toned down the flower's fruitiness and almost completely stripped its animalic characteristics. This could have turned out quite a dull sterile scent - and honestly, that is what I expected from this Montale.

But in all fairness, the outcome is quite lovely. Sure, it is a straightforward white floral without much development, but the jasmin here is as genuine as it gets: fruity, sweet, blossomy, dusty, stale, wilted. It is all there and it is all kept very much under control, unlike the wonderfully schizofrene Sarrasins or the travesty in Lush Lust. A decent, friendly version where the beauty lies in its simplicity. Remarkable.

Truly Full of Jasmine!
I am baffled by the middling ratings which Montale JASMIN FULL has garnered here at Parfumo and also the strangely inconsistent reviews I've seen here and there. I'm wondering whether there may be batch issues. Or perhaps some bad samples are circulating about? Otherwise, I do not understand how this simple but compelling creation could receive anything but praise: it's jasmine! Big, thick, yes, full jasmine!

This composition is very close to Molinard Jasmin--both have a bit of orange blossom thrown in for good measure. Both are gorgeous. So anyone who's on a budget needs to look into the Molinard. Perhaps people find this soliflore too straightforward to warrant a high niche price? I did see a review claiming that this is indistinguishable from far less expensive jasmine essential oil, so I suppose that might be why it has received such low ratings. Or are there jasmine haters out there rating jasmine soliflores? I suppose that such persons would bring the ratings down, but why bother sniffing a perfume named JASMIN FULL, if you are not ready to commit 100% to jasmine? I ask most sincerely.

Well, I for one am ready to commit. Sign me up. It's official: jasmine is one of my favorite flowers. This composition is so voluptuously wonderful that I am lost in a cloud of jasmine. Rose? Who needs rose? That's how drunken I am on this intoxicating perfume.

A too vibrant and not balanced quite synthetic jasmine with an average to weak sillage at a too high price. There's something far better!
