An underestimated rip-off
The first time I smelled this I thought it was a prank. I just got straight alcohol, with no other discernible note except maybe tequila. I was either nose blind or it was an emperors new clothes situation.
A friend gifted me a sample and I just sprayed it luxuriously and, while I still think it’s a total rip off, it has this beautiful glow about it—the tequila note for me is still there, but also what I imagine a bubblegum herb would smell like. Certainly will never spend money on it—it’s just too weak to justify the price—but I did underestimate her.

night root bloom
It's definitely "about" orris. It has all the powderiness you'd expect, but it is very clearly from the earth, and very root-like. I've never smelled fresh orris root, but I imagine it's very close to this. It's mostly dead-on linear, and it's complex enough where I don't mind at all. I adore wearing it at night--not to go out, but chilling at home or outside somewhere where the breeze is cool and the moon is out.
I am curious if anyone wears this as a daily signature scent. I couldn't do so, but there's a mood for which only this will do.
(Closest family member to me is Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist)

Could bathe in it
The amazing thing about Papier d’Armenie is the stark contrast between its scent before burning versus as it burns. I was expecting Bois d’Armenie to resemble the latter: heavy, smokey, and purifying frankincense and myrrh, reminiscent of Orthodox Church. Instead, it is nearly a dead ringer for the musky, powdery, vanilla, almost dusty iris scent of the ‘Papiers’ while they are neatly in their booklet. Not an unpleasant surprise! I get almost no woodiness, and it has no smoky incense notes, but it is so incredibly smooth and supple and comforting that I am lusting after a full bottle even though it is wildly expensive. It had a weak projection on me—I have to spray with gusto as I would a cologne—but it is so elegant. Also, confirming It has that special powdery ‘Guerlinade’ accord that folks have mentioned. Uzum em. . .
eyes wide shut edp
The person who got me onto this one led with "this smells like an orgy!"
That basically sums it up. It's one of the most animalic, fecal fragrances i've ever smelt, but at the same time there is a real sumptuousness that for me comes from the cassis and dewy grape notes--definitely not true to life, think more dutch still life.
The orgy in question is of the Eyes Wide Shut variety--we're at maybe hour 5 into the proceedings, inside some insidious palace, in which there is a long table of the finest fresh and dried fruit to sustain all the participants.
After about 20 minutes the stench of civet crossfades into a creamy sandalwood and a fuzzy green oakmoss. The stank remains, but company arrives, and the fruit platter is exhausted by the end of the evening.
I can't imagine what the public occasion for this would be--please someone share your adventures with this one--but thus far I enjoy it when i'm alone for the night.

Please forgive me
Tried today and a bit underwhelmed considering all the hype about this fragrance. The opening has a lovely contrast of fluffiness and spice, very subtle and beautiful with none of the bite or stank that "ravageur" suggests. Within an hour the nuance fades on my skin and becomes straight vanilla musc. The opening is very special but for me it is mostly a skin scent so not worth the price.
