Exploring New Scents #6| Zoologist: Hummingbird

Top Notes: Apple, Cherry, Citrus, Lilac, Muguet, Plum, Rose, Violet Leaf
Heart Notes: Honey, Honeysuckle, Mimosa, Peony, Tulip, Ylang
Base Notes: Amber, Coumarin, Cream, Moss, Musks*, Sandalwood, White Woods

Another bird in the line up of Zoologist! Nightingale was a total hit for me, so I was excited to try Hummingbird to see how the floral panned out.

The first blast of Hummingbird was intense! One big blast of floral. The first notes were rose and plum blossom but no hint of citrus to break up the onslaught of floral. In fact, there were no other notes but floral.

After 20-30 minutes Hummingbird finally began to morph as Zoologist fragrances do. The rose took a back seat to the honeysuckle, ylang ylang and violet which moved to the forefront. Under the mellowing bouquet there was a slight hum of oakmoss and sandalwood with a layer of sweetness to round out the scent. This was one gorgeous scent!

After 5 hours, the scent had mellowed quite a bit. It was the most beautiful candied, creamy  violet scent. The other florals long dissipated. This reminded me of violet candies I had enjoyed from Belgium, except this was more creamy. It reminded me of a delicious violet and honey ice cream. So delicious. This scent was absolutely beautiful!

Honestly, if you like floral perfumes, you may want to give Hummingbird a try. It's rare when I love a fragrance so much that I go right out and buy it, but I did with no regrets. Since then, I have used Hummingbird 3 or 4 times and the sample is almost gone, sadly. Yes, this is more of a spring and summer scent, but it's so pretty, i don't care, even in the dead of winter. Rules were sometimes made to be broken

If I had to rate this beauty, it would be a solid 9.5. The sillage is amazing at first, but I have noticed by the 4th hour, it tends to become a skin scent unless you spritz a few sprays onto your clothing, but be prepared, the initial sprays are very floral intense, but it will calm down to such a gorgeous scent. Well worth the initial blast!

If you do not like florals, this one will be very difficult for you. Also, if you prefer a more unisex scent, this may be difficult as well as it leans very feminine to me, but as always, wear what makes you happy. Hummingbird makes me very happy and it will get a lot of use in the months to come. I can't wait to try the rest of my samples, but this one, may just be my favorite from Zoologist! It will be hard to beat.

imo this is the most wearable of their fragrances and my favorite from them. on my skin, it smells very strongly of honeysuckle with an undertone of slightly fermented green apples.

Those notes sound so beautiful! Skin chemistry is so interesting. I love honeysuckle and wished that more came forward for me, but even so, I love this one. So far, it's my favorite of the collection. Just perfect!

I don't know, I just can't bring myself to try anything from this house. This is a total marketing failure for me because of the branding. I just imagine everything smelling animalic, like a rabbit hutch. I know it's probably all in my head, but it's such a turn-off for me.

I totally get it! I tend to be a creature who loves novelty, so I'm very intrigued. But there are some really challenging fragrances like T-Rex and Camel. Camel smelling very much like barnyard on my chemistry.
I think some of the scents are more for fragrance art than for everyday wear. Most tend to lean towards the environment of the animal rather than the actual animal. Though Hyrax I've heard is pure animal. Still, this may not appealing.
If you ever find yourself interested, I would suggest the samples. I have heard of people buying bottles blindly which I think is very risky. Some of their scents are very tame and great for the general public, while others are a hard sell.
