Not everybody's darling. Kalan, deep down a good guy.
I also bought the Kalan second-hand. And blind. First of all: I wouldn't recommend that with the Kalan. There are certainly pleasing and streamlined fragrances that do not bother those who are only perceived as "perfume" by the environment. Fragrances that you don't really take to your heart but that you can somehow use up. Not so the Kalan. It has to fit, otherwise you can't wear it. What happened to me was that I became quite curious about Kalan after reading various descriptions. Basically, I haven't been very wrong with most PdM so far (apart from "Percival | Parfums de Marly"). Then there was a good offer and I ventured onto thin ice. First of all, I have to say that I find the color of the bottle quite strong. It triggers emotions in me, which is perhaps why I bought it blind. In conjunction with some of the descriptions, I had a completely different expectation. I don't think the fragrance fits well in the fiery red bottle. I associate this red with completely different fragrances.
After the first spray, I thought to myself: it's very close to "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian"! Not so much in direct comparison, but somehow it is. There is a strange relationship. But BR540 is much sweeter. Kalan starts off dry and a little dusty for me. Perhaps that's where the frequent comparison with old building sites comes from. I have smelled the inside of many old houses, so the comparison cannot be dismissed. It's probably the smell of old wood and clay mortar, but also a little mold (sorry). All this together with a spicy note and a profound sweetness. I can't detect any fresh orange notes at all, the roasted tonka bean is somewhat reminiscent of burnt caramel. And I also smell this burnt note in BR540.
I consider the sillage and durability to be in the upper average range. I tested the Kalan for three days and kept giving it a chance. It is what it is. It doesn't pretend and doesn't try to please everyone. That makes him likeable and authentic. But in the end, it wasn't enough for me. It was liberating to be able to wash it off in the evening and apply a tried and tested evening fragrance to reconcile and relax. That's why the Kalan and I won't be together. Too bad. It's actually a good one. Just not for me.

Once sprayed on, there's no turning back... Monster!
It was January of this year, right at the beginning, still on my end-of-year vacation. My beloved everyday companion of many years, "Knize Ten Golden Edition | Knize", coughed the last droplets of its inner values into my neck. Empty, completely. The thought that the time was ripe for a change was growing in my head to the point of certainty. So I flopped comfortably onto the sofa and did a little research on the internet to find the "best men's fragrances". It's no great surprise that I soon stumbled across "Sauvage (Eau de Toilette) | Dior". "Of course, it must be great, with such a big presence on the Internet..." So off I went to the local (small town) perfumery to test the DIOR Sauvage. They told me straight away that there was also a current flanker, but that it was much better. I had it sprayed on and also took a small sample with me. My first impression in the store was already strong, very pronounced top note, spicy, oriental, sweet, oppressive, but also something like freshly showered. Actually quite nice. That's why I impatiently went back to the store and bought a bottle. The next morning, I could hardly wait to spray on my new fragrance. Hiss! The very first spray was a reminder to exercise restraint. A reckless second press of the spray button catapulted another dose onto my neck. No prisoners are taken here, that was immediately clear to me. From now on, the "Sauvage Elixir | Dior" was the dominant scent throughout the house. You can't hide anything here.
Over time, the fragrance changes very slowly towards the heart note. Lavender is supposed to dominate here, but I don't think so. The fragrance had me in a stranglehold. The "Sauvage (Eau de Parfum) | Dior" constantly made it clear to me who the olfactory boss is today. I found it to be very linear and simple. Certainly not really bad, but there is nothing special about it. The fragrance has its own statement, but it's pretty mass market. I've been smelling it a lot in the city since I started paying attention to it. It mainly gives a feeling of freshly showered and clean, it's masculine and sweet. The ambroxan makes "Sauvage Elixir | Dior" very synthetic and one-dimensional. I don't perceive any licorice, but a warm woodiness in the drydown. Speaking of drydown, it is very long in coming. The persistence is abnormal, far too strong for me. If any of the Sauvage Elixir gets on my clothes, I can't get it off for the time being. Don't get me wrong, I like strong fragrances. But at some point it got on my nerves so much that I didn't use it for quite a while afterwards. During this time, thanks to Parfumo, I was able to get to know a few other fragrances (niche fragrances were previously unknown to me). That opened up a new world for me. I don't think I'll be wearing the Sauvage monster again. Respectable lovers of the fragrance may forgive me.

Thank you for reading my first review!
