The Longevity Is A Tragedy
This is such a delicious rose fragrance - probably one of the best, ever.
It just smells straight-up like a rose without much else. It's not oldschool (which would be a very powdery, aldyhydic rose) or newschool (which would be a jammy and sweet rose). It just smells like you have happened upon a dewy, fragrant rose in a garden and have leaned down for a smell. I do get a hint of honey and citrus like the notes listed here but they're so harmonized with the rose that they barely seem separate. I see why people think it's boring because it's just rose and little else but it's executed so well and that's exciting to me.
This is such a realistic rose fragrance that the first time I smelled it I had a powerful olfactory memory of being in a florist's shop with my Dad buying roses for my Mom. I have to wonder if this was my earliest memory of smelling roses - I think it may be as we didn't have a garden and in this memory I was very small.
Fragrance alone, it's in my top 3 rose fragrances with Delina and La Fille De Berlin. However the performance is so bad that I don't even have a full bottle of this. On my skin it lasts about an hour before it turns into an unpleasant powdery floral that smells like it's gone off (but is barely detectable) and on fabric it performs better but I think the projection is really low (which could be bad or good).
Jo Malone fragrances get a lot of criticism for being colognes with EDT/EDP prices. Some actually perform quite well - Lime Basil Mandarin has impressive longevity for a cologne and Peony Blush Suede isn't bad either. Fragrances in general have gotten weaker than they were 20-30 years ago when JM earned this reputation so I think the bar has lowered and some JM fragrances now don't seem like such a bad buy but Red Roses specifically performs so poorly that I can't give it the same benefit of the doubt that I give some other JM fragrances despite it being one of the best fragrances they've ever created.

Grass-Flavored Candy
This is so strange and I love it. This is not for everyone or even most people. I see why it's so polarizing. It's insanely sweet but also kind of damp and green. It's got a medicinal quality that is contradicted by the sweetness. I wanted to be put off by it but I kept coming back to it.
I do see why some people say it smells like rot. I don't think it smells like rot but it does have an almost fermented quality. I'm an herbalist and it makes me think of some kind of dried root that you'd mix with something sweet to get it down. Cough syrup is a pretty accurate way to describe it, actually, but for some reason I love it.
This bottle is next-level. I think it's the most beautiful I own. I always wanted a Mugler bottle but "Angel (Eau de Parfum) | Mugler" smells rank on me and I'm not into jasmine enough for "Alien (Eau de Parfum) | Mugler". I found it for sale last week and just received it so they're still out there!

Everything I Hoped It Would Be
I have smelled chocolate and rose fragrances before but this one is a $100 steak and the others are a hot dog. Is this a bold new take on cocoa, rose, and patchouli? Not really. The value of Feve Gourmand is in the familiarity. When I smelled it I though "oh yeah, THAT'S how this category of fragrances should be!" I have nothing against smelling like a cupcake but a cupcake isn't a hug or a warm blanket. The gourmands I like the most evoke a feeling AND a food.
Nothing is too pronounced yet nothing escapes detection. Every note is there but none overpower the other. It's sweet but in a natural way. It's sweet like dark chocolate, not corn syrup with artificial chocolate flavor.
I will almost certainly never own a bottle because I am just not in the guilloutine-bound tax bracket but I will buy a decant every now and then and luxuriate in it.

Aquatic Fruity Floral Lovers, Try It!
I think this should have been named something that had to do with melon because I assumed this was some boring floral. Melone Salvaggia it is!
I love aquatics but they're always either too clubby, too common, too salty, or too stuffy and floral. I really like this. The melon in this really livens it up and keeps the violet from taking it into the baby powder territory. There's also a juicy green note hovering in the background that keeps this grounded. It feels more youthful than most violet-centric fragrances.
I like a lot of fragrances in the Aqua Allegoria line but most don't feel FB worthy to me - I liked "Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca | Guerlain" , "Aqua Allegoria Coconut Fizz | Guerlain" , and "Aqua Allegoria Rosa Rossa | Guerlain". This may be the one I pull the trigger on.

My Favorite Cola Fragrance
I was hoping I'd like this more than "Tonka Cola | Mancera" and I do! This is more of a photorealistic cola (though I sometimes think it also smells a bit like root beer). It succeeds in smelling fizzy which is a characteristic I love but rarely find in fragrances. It's sweet but the lime and cinnamon give it an edge so it doesn't feel heavy or syrupy. It's very linear so the drydown is the same as the opening.
The longevity is meh but it's also a very reasonably priced fragrance so I don't feel like I can ding them for that, especially since longevity just isn't what it used to be in general.
If you like gourmands, give this a try!
