Summer can come
May has arrived and in search of a new fragrance for the warm to hot days, I once again rummaged through the fragrance shelves. But I already had my certain requirements and wanted to avoid spontaneous purchases. Please not coconut and other exotic fruits and flowers from the South Seas such as ylang-ylang or tiare. And not such fresh, supposedly evergreens like bergamot, neroli and lemon. I've had a thing against 4711 since I was a child (it was the all-rounder in my childhood in the 60s) and I don't warm to the new derivatives either. With lemon, there is a great danger of smelling like a cleaning agent. Then there's the aspect of money, because I didn't want to spend that much and preferred drugstore fragrances.

There on the shelf at nose height was a new arrival from S. Oliver. A special edition and this time the horse in the equine drugstore was put to a different use. Last bottle there and into the shopping cart and then tested. I thought I could still put it back. But that wasn't the case.

The fragrance started with fresh fruits such as slightly tart melon and sweet peach. Quickly followed by delicate, yet easily perceptible lily of the valley. Shortly afterwards, rose, violet and jasmine. Floral, delicate, fresh and creamy. Rounded off with sandalwood and driftwood. A bit like the sea. Fortunately, I couldn't smell any musk. Together, a strong but unobtrusive fragrance that is reminiscent of Nivea cream. Noble, subtle, fresh, creamy, well-groomed, but not a stunner. A fragrance that can still be worn at 30 degrees in the shade without overwhelming its surroundings. Well, it doesn't last forever with its 2-3 hours, but that's bearable.

The bottle is simple and nautical with no frills. I like that kind of thing. Excellent price / performance. So summer can come for me.

Jupp's bright red rubber boat
As always, I can't stop at the fragrance shelves and I glanced over the new arrivals. I've found the company's shower gels passable so far, but I've had a problem with fragrances. This was also the case with the new fragrance Karma.

As a teen from the 70s, the orange color with the oriental pattern immediately caught my eye. Flower power, bell bottoms, mini skirts, platform shoes, Abba and George Baker selections went through my head in a matter of seconds. The fragrance had to be tested. I was expecting something with patchouli, the trendy fragrance of the time, but that was a sentence with an X.

The beginning was extremely pungent and artificial and I felt like I did back then. Memories of a Saturday in my neighborhood came flooding back. The bright red rubber boat and the orange wall tent for the naturist vacation in St. Peter-Ording were set up and checked by Uncle Jupp. His wife, Siggi, came along with her hair in a twist and a huge cloud of concrete-brand hair stiffener trailing behind her. Kids Daggi and Rolli had baked waffles, but let them burn. As a teen, you were allowed to do that. Now Grandma Änne joined them. Freshly curled curls tinted purple and smelling of taffeta and hairdressing salon. Schweiger's son Kurt drove up with the bakery on wheels and the smell of bread mingled with it. Everyone inspected Uncle Jupp's handiwork and then his kids checked out the air mattress and the floating tires. Now the smell of plastic toys was added to the mix.

All this mixture of scents is the scent of karma. Artificial at the beginning, then the full blast of the flowers, where frangipani, tiare and ylang ylang fight over who has the say in the fragrance. A corresponding disharmony. Later on, the remaining fragrances fought it out and there was no winner here either. A stench for me. Sorry, but that's how I felt about the fragrance.

Long-lasting and unfortunately a headache candidate for sensitive people. The bottle appealed to me visually, but unfortunately not the contents. Fortunately, I only tested it.

Ripe spring
Met a long-time friend in a drugstore the other day. We used to be colleagues, then we became long-distance neighbors. I was part of the children's clique with her husband. She's been a widow for three years because her husband is the face of one of the corona deaths in our city. Didn't take it all that seriously. But that's another story.

After I got over my coronavirus illness in the fall, my sense of smell has changed and I am now enthusiastically sniffing my way through the world of fragrances. My friend, who is even younger than me, looked at what I thought were old women's fragrances and picked up Tosca. A fragrance that was not and will not be my friend. She instructed me that it was a fragrance for our age group and that it would be appropriate to wear it.

The lady did not understand that I am not bothered by age and my surroundings, but choose fragrances according to my nose. To provoke her, I reached for the poisonous green bottle of the rock band with the hard sounds. Expecting a lady cracker that would shake the place.

But completely different sounds, ehm. scents than the band came my way. The fragrance began with fresh leaves, spring rain and a hint of the sea. Followed by lily of the valley, a scent familiar from the garden. Unfortunately, lily of the valley always tends to be a little too opulent and overwhelmingly sweet. But not here. Traces of rose and orange blossom gave the fragrance a certain roundness. Musk and me has become a tricky thing. But in this fragrance it comes across as subtle and not dominating.

The longevity of more than eight hours is just great. It also doesn't change over time, but becomes weaker without being different. The only thing that bothers me is the poisonous green bottle, the brand name "Klotz" in the bag and the fact that the smallest amount of the fragrance is 100 ml. Particularly with new fragrances, I prefer to start with smaller bottles, especially as nothing works without bottling for the handbag. As I test fragrances several times before buying them, I haven't yet absorbed them.

I love lily of the valley fragrances. But unfortunately it's a difficult thing. You either have a migraine trigger in front of you, a chemical scent that only has the name in common with the fragrance or one with such a scratchy, soapy finish. This is not a lily of the valley for sweet teens but for mature but young-at-heart ladies of all ages.

My friend looked at me quite shocked when I didn't consider any of the old lady fragrances, but that it would be this particular extraordinary fragrance that would move in with me after the next test.

From flop to top
Since I fell ill with coronavirus in the fall, things have been chaotic for me when it comes to fragrances. My sense of smell has suffered and many things that used to be my dream scent are unfortunately no longer. As long as they don't trigger migraines or nausea, they have to go in the cellar for now.

Last week, I tested the fragrance here from La Rive and wrote a review. But Look of Women didn't deserve that after all. At the second attempt, it made it into my collection as a new addition. I have no idea why the first test was so bad.

Visually, the baby pink bottle is a sister to NR, but that's about it for me in terms of similarity. As always, it starts with a classic hairspray scent and a hint of rubber. But as always with LR, only at the beginning. Then rose and peach. Floral and fruity - I have become cautious with musk, but here it is well dosed with amber. Together a little tart like Yves Rocher Thè Vert, which I still mourn. The finish is softer with sandalwood and patchouli.

Last week I smelled fabric softener, but no, it's greenish notes that dominate and only a little floral. I don't know if it was the tester, because this time I was in a different store. Now it went from a flop to a top, but I would definitely recommend testing it beforehand. You can't go wrong with it. Of course, it's not a firecracker that flies behind you like a flag and smothers the environment.

We become friends
Or rather, we already are. But the fragrance still hasn't found its way into my home.
I've had my eye on the fragrance for a while now, but always bad luck and no tester. Buying blind is not my thing. Today I met a good friend who bought the fragrance with confidence. Totally thrilled. But in the store, how could it be otherwise, there was no tester. On the way home, I popped into a drugstore, tested the fragrance and was impressed.

It starts off fresh and a little tart due to the blackcurrant. I don't really like blackcurrant that much. It often smells sour. Not here. Bergamot is not too strong either, the flowers are added and everything with the woody scents is a good thing, where the freshness and the flowers dominate, but are subtle. Vanilla is less than a hint. An evergreen that makes you stand out without attracting attention. Very good longevity. What more could you want?

I'll test it again ... no, not at all... i'll buy it
