yeah... nope!
I had such high hopes for this! I'm a fan of salty/marine fragrances and I'm a huge fan of Issey Miyake (currently own 27 of their fragrances) so this was good enough to get me excited.

I usually enjoy the seaweed accord, it adds a nice oceanic vibe that I quite enjoy but this one is not too salty and I get smelling like cucumber-ish. It doesn't smell bad but it's not what I'd like to smell like. One of the few Issey fragrances I consider a fail (this coming from a guy who LOVES L'Eau Super Majeur d'Issey).

It's beyond me seeing people marking it as similar or "influenced" by Nautica, Kenzo EDP and Acqua di Gio when they're nothing alike.

Bottle is astonishing though

it's on the younger side but still works for me
I recall getting a 1.5 sample when it was first released and not liking it one bit. Too sweet for a summer fragrance and too much on the fruity side for my taste so I just carried on.

In 2024 I noticed it was harder and harder to find and I'm a sucker for Discontinued frags so I traced it and got myself a 75ml and I'm glad I did! Yes, it has an Invictus feel to it. Yes, it's way to young for what I usually wear and yes, it's too far from the original DNA but it's still a very nice. It's is sweet but not as sweet as I recall it to be (or perhaps my taste just changed) but it's a playful kind of sweet (the kind that is still wearable in the summer or even some cooler days ) while bringing a marine feel to it. It's nothing like the original ADG but that's fine, in the end it's about it being good and having good performance and this one does smell great and perform real good. ADG Absolu feels closer to the Profondo side of Gio if you ask me.

Ok, so...
I'm a huge fan of boozy accords in fragrances but on the other hand I'm not a fan of iris. I own Dior Homme Parfum Homme Original, Homme Eau for Men, Prada L'Homme Eau, L'Homme Intense, Valentino Uomo Intense... (you get my point) and despite how highly regarded those are in the frag comm none of them are a 'Love' to me. I find the iris not a little annoying if it's too heavy handed, I even sold Narciso Blue Noir Parfum and Prada L'Homme even though they are both great.
So then there is Gentleman Réserve Privée, I was caution about the iris note but on the other hand I'm a sucker for boozy accords so, Whiskey? Yes, please!

There was a lot of hype, all youtube reviews praising it unanimously so, it had to be good right? So I jumped at the first deal I found and yes, there is the iris I was dreading but it's within a range I tolerate so I wore it a couple of times and I was indifferent about it. I decided to wear it tonight and just as I sprayed it I thought to myself: "wait, wasn't there supposed to be a whisky note in here, where is it?". I can't detect any kind of boozy accord perhaps it's me so I came to browse the notes and surprise! There's in fact a whisky note declared!

The fragrance is really nice, there's the iris and it's quite notable so if you're into that note you may love it. There's a creamy sweet backbone, like vanilla which is not listed but it makes it very cozy and nice, ideal for date night. There's also a lovely nutty feel and some patchouli that makes really makes everything feel complete.

Performance is really good and perhaps if the whisky was more prominent (too me) I'd rank this higher. I'm a whisky guy, what can I say?

I guess it's ok
I was writing a review for this and I noticed there isn't much to say, it's nice smelling, performs good, nothing out of the ordinary and a little generic so, instead of a review I'll just summarize with on word: "fine"

I liked Profondo better, even when it had a note that didn't agree with me and made me sell it, the good parts of it were outstanding. Fortunately I still own Profumo and Essenza which are just lovely and Absolu Instinct which I really enjoy (against all odds).

Not quite blue
The first release from youtuber School of Scent (Omar) and to be honest I wasn't expecting much. I hadn't watched that many videos when I saw his kickstarter campaign which I decided not to support but later, out of curiosity decided to watch some of his content and I came around. He does know his perfumes so I went to support his campaign and I'm glad I did.

The fragrance has been often described as a 'blue fragrance' but to me it's greener, green with some blue hues perhaps? It does hit you with citrus and lavender up front and you get this gorgeous patchouli, eventually the citrus takes a backseat and you get the vetiver and galbanum plus some musk (I don't get the ambergris) but I just love the opening and how it evolves into something that even though it's not that ground breaking is certainly very special.

Performance is good, I get 8~9 hours, enough to make it through a workday and after that I get some whiffs now and then.

Great quality for a very decent and fair price, well done Omar!
