When you take a nose turn

This blog article, a departure from what I had previously in mind to write, is an attempt to justify myself through the shared experiences of other fraglovers in what I call a 'nose turn'. This phenomenon includes (but is not limited to) loving a fragrance note and then (suddenly, it would seem to you) detesting it with all your heart the next season. It has once again happened to me- with roses of all things!

As I write, there is a bouquet of white roses in a vase downstairs and a big jar of muscat rose bath salts next to the tub. Although I would not call myself a lover of roses, I have always agreed with their scent, indeed I have owned several rose leaning fragrances: rose-ouds, rose-patchoulis, rose-sandalwoods, rose-musks, thus it seemed a no-brainer for me to blind buy Ajmal's Wisal and bring it into the collection to serve as a boudoir fragrance. I'd previously used and loved the Wisal Dhahab flanker and also worn Al Haramain's Madinah which cloned Wisal, so surely this would be a 10/10 star buy, eyes closed, money on the table. One migraine later and I am humbled to write that I was sorely wrong, so very wrong.

What went wrong? I took one sniff of Wisal and I (it would seem to me) suddenly took a nose turn! In retrospect, the signs were all on the wall with me ejecting all my rose-leaning fragrances for one reason, but it took a migraine to put the pieces together. Somewhere along the line, I stopped reaching for rose fragrances because I took a nose turn and didn't realise it.

For those who suffer this unending ailment and also have a list of notes in their 'no-attempt-to-sniff' category, you will understand my heartbreak that the rose note in perfumery will now be moving into that pile. So what about you, tell me about your nose turn experiences and how it affected your collection. Wherever you reside, have a great day ahead and may a restful night betide you 🌹.
