Not everyone's cup of tea, but mine for sure
While people's opinions are divided on this scent; Some absolutely sing its praises, some despise the scent profile for being headache educing, others find it unremarkable. Saying it sits amongst a sea of generic and overplayed scent combinations. Bolstered by social media raving about its scent, almost deceptively so, followed up with a hefty price tag. I understand these sentiments entirely from all angles. Each person has their own likes and dislikes for everything! It's great insight to hear everyone's take aways to inform your own choice before spending your money on something like perfume!
However, I am in the crowd that really enjoy this. This isn't a scent profile that I've ever smelled before. It could be that I'm new to fragrance's, the people I socialize with and/or even geographically... This scent immediately caught my attention when I was perusing the store I was in. So much so, that I was drawn to it every time. Now that I have had the chance to wear this for a week or two.. I have thoughts to share!
Firstly, the notes that I smell are very few for what is listed, not that I mind. I smell Vanilla, Jasmine, Pachouli and Orange blossom. These are the initial scents when sprayed on my clothes and skin. When it dries down, it shifts to being more coffee, cedar, orange blossom and vanilla forward. I can smell faint Jasmine/Patchouli but not a ton like the initial spray. On my skin, it almost turns syrupy sweet, very faint scent of pink pepper but the syrupy smell is almost addictive to me. I just kind of want to smell myself all day! The syrupy smell almost reminds me of brown sugar boba with a slight hit of orange. I think this could strictly be my skin chemistry; I absolutely LOVE it.
For Sillage and Longevity; I find that this really depends on how I apply it. Over my clothes and on skin lets this last almost all day while I'm at work. For about eight hours give or take. If I leave out one, it seems to be weaker at about Four hours. The sillage is moderate both ways, I just seem to notice it not really waft behind me when I wear it strictly on skin or strictly on my clothes.
Price point wise, I do think this is a bit expensive for what results it provides on the longevity/sillage point. Even for the scent profile I get, it's pretty pricey! I think if you can get it in a bundle or on sale.. Would be more worthwhile.
Overall, this perfume really stood out for me! I'm a huge fan of it, its quickly captured my heart as my signature scent! I could ramble on and on about the scent profile at nauseum. I'll save you from that!
I do think this scent isn't a safe blind buy by any means. Very polarizing reactions to it, each person's nose smells something different. As always, I suggest trying in person first or trying a travel size before committing!
My Favorite Vanilla of all time
I have found the gourmand of my dreams! Something I never expected, but welcomed, nonetheless.
Warm musk is the perfect Creamy Vanilla, Mature and smooth. I find other vanilla notes incredibly sweet, sugary or overstated. Once I smelled it, I knew that this had to be a part of my collection forever!
This scent really stirred up memories for me, I typically do have associations with scents and objects but not so many memories. It reminded me of when I was little, having cupcakes at the roller rink for my friend's birthday. Whipped vanilla icing, vanilla cake and laughter all around.
The Vanilla is rather mellow, a sweet milky vanilla to be exact. The Musk and amber definitely play their parts well in this combination to make the Vanilla muted and creamy. I think there is something ever so slightly buttery/salty but that could genuinely be my skin and lotion. It is not overpowering by any means, it stays a happy consistent until it dries down.
The Longevity on this spray is unlike any other Bath & Body Works spray I've had by far, well over nine hours this lasted. It dried down to something subtle on my skin, but on my clothes and blanket. This lasted overnight under two/one blankets! Impressive! The heat from my skin and trapped between the blankets made this smell like a sugar cookie! I was very impressed, even in my sleepy state. A perfect wakeup call to start my day off with. I can totally see it being a good summer/winter scent, specifically because of heat, be it from the sun or body really elevating this. Will certainly have it be a part of my rotation for both seasons!
I do think that the sillage of course, needs some help. Like other B&BW sprays, it doesn't have the lifespan it deserves. Alas, what you get for a body mist! However, I am fine with that given the Longevity for this spray! I am heavily considering picking up the Eau de Parfum version of this! Maybe more than one, to have a part of my collection!
Overall, this is one of my favorite smells this year! Definitely competing to be my signature scent. I would be very inclined to suggest someone to try this for themselves, of course- Always try before buying! That being said, if you were considering blind buying and enjoy less sweet vanilla. I could in good faith say that my experience was amazing with this spray. One of the most delicious vanilla's I've smelled!
Not the rose you expect it to be.. in the best way possible
I typically am not drawn to rose scents, but this one has changed my mind about that just a little bit. Cheirosa '91 is a beautiful blend of Floral, Tangy, hints of wood, nuts and something sweet.
On first smell, I was initially hit with the smell of rose and passionfruit. The passionfruit being much stronger than the rose but paired together they balance each other out. The dry down definitely shows more of its sweet side, being a lot tamer on the nose and more floral forward. I can smell the honey, sandalwood and pistachio as it dries. Faint but delicious, nonetheless.
I think it really steers it away from being a "grandma" smell, the thing I was worried it would be. It's not overly floral, despite having its heart notes being Magnoli and Pink Rose. There is a brief smell of something powdery from the Magnolia, not overwhelmingly so but it's a nice ouch.
The sweetness isn't juvenile either, it's definitely something that is gourmand in a more subtle way.
Overall, this is a wonderful addition to the Cheirosa line. Definitely fits in at home but a more unique and stands out amongst the other scents of theirs. I could easily see myself wearing this day to day or recommending it to others to try.
Creamy citrusy clean woods
Despite Finery being a more affordable brand, this does not mean that they lack in quality. This scent in my opinion, is a more masculine unisex scent, neither completely masculine nor feminine. However, if I had to pick which way it leaned, it would be masculine.
The saffron, while to the back- evens out the sandalwood and amber. There is something creamy I get from the scent, perhaps it is the combination between the amber and saffron... or maybe the sandalwood itself. I also detect something almost similar to Irish spring. Despite no citrus or herb notes included, I smell something lemon/limey... almost like a lemon drop with herbal nuances...
Despite me only owning the body mist version and testing the eau de parfum. this has an almost ridiculously long-lasting longevity. It lingers and dries down to a more subtle version of itself after multiple hours. Certainly, the bang for your buck that you would want.
The Siliage on the other hand, in my personal experience- this tends to trail for a short period. upwards of 2-4 hours before it mutes to something more gentle and subtle.
Overall, I would always suggest trying in person before blind purchasing. However, this would be one I'd be comfortable suggesting to others if they are looking for something more mature but in a more affordable price range. This is a delicious woodsy scent that seems to develop the longer it lingers on your skin, from just the notes listed to a woodsy herby creamy and almost citrusy spice.
Personally too much, but I see the appeal
While I gravitate towards Vanilla / Caramel in my gourmands, this spray from Sol De Janiero was extremely disappointing to me. Perhaps it's something in the bottle and/or on my skin that turns this extremely salty upon first application or first smell. Overwhelmingly so.
After that initial saltiness dissipates, I get an extremely buttery and nutty scent. Almost like a butter cookie from a tin, but too savory for my own taste. There is something nutty about it as it dries down.. but I could not get past the buttered popcorn smell.
When asking for others' opinions on the smell- I got a very large range of responses and thoughts. Ranging from cotton candy to kettle corn. I do believe that It could have potential in my collection or in others depending on what you're looking for scent wise. I will always advocate to smell in person before purchasing.
The longevity on this spray is actually very long lasting despite it not being a full eau de parfume or eau de toilette. I believe the tonka really helps with that.
The longevity truthfully depends on numerous factors, but like the other Sol De Janiero's after about a couple hours, it dries down to your skin and requires another application. This one seems to last an hour or two more than the others... and seems to have a lot more silliage than the others. For better or for worse.
Ultimately, It isn't something I would personally recommend to someone if they asked me directly.. but if the conversation was about it. I would encourage them to test it out in person first.
