With the founding of Sol de Janeiro in 2015, Heela Yang has created a brand that brings the sunny and fun-loving essence of Brazil to the world of body care. Yang, a Harvard Business School graduate and experienced executive at beauty brands such as Clinique and Lancôme, was inspired by the open and positive beach culture of Brazil that she experienced after moving there. Her goal: a cosmetics line that embodies self-acceptance, joie de vivre and Brazilian lightness and brings it into daily skincare. The name “Sol de Janeiro”, which means “Sun of January”, captures this vision - it stands for the radiant summer of Brazil and the attitude to life that is to be reflected in the products.
Sol de Janeiro's breakthrough came with the “Brazilian Bum Bum Cream”, a luxurious body cream that quickly achieved cult status. The cream combines skin-firming extracts from the guaraná plant with the warm aromas of pistachio, vanilla and salted caramel to create a fragrant skincare experience.
The cosmetics label now offers a wide range of products - from body and hair care to fragrances and shower and bath products. Enriched with moisturizing Brazilian ingredients such as cupuaçu butter, açaí and coconut oil, the products stand for cruelty-free and sustainable care; many are also suitable for a vegan routine.
