A Rose Garden at Daybreak: "Up at Dawn" by Maison Margiela
With "Up at Dawn," French fashion house Maison Margiela presents a new unisex fragrance that combines rose absolute with a fresh, spicy top note and an earthy base note.
The Eau de Toilette is inspired by the atmosphere of an English rose garden in the early hours of the morning. The opening notes are dominated by pink pepper, whose sharpness meets the resinous, citrus aroma of elemi resin. An earthy nuance lends the opening additional depth.
Rose absolute takes center stage in the heart. Guatemalan ambrette seed absolute complements the floral note with a warm, slightly musky facet, while iris root adds powdery accents. In the base, patchouli, musk, cashmeran, and moss combine to form a soft, earthy-woody foundation that allows the fragrance to fade away warmly.
"Up at Dawn" is part of the Replica collection, which is conceptually based on a fashion collection from 1994. The fragrances in the collection have names that refer to familiar everyday situations and collectively shared memories—such as "Lazy Sunday Morning" or "Beach Walk".

About Maison Margiela
Founded in Paris in 1988, Maison Margiela is one of Europe's most conceptually influential fashion houses. Since its inception, the brand has pursued an experimental approach in which classic silhouettes are questioned, deconstructed, and reimagined: visible craftsmanship, deliberately unfinished details, and presentations beyond classic catwalks continue to characterize the label's signature style to this day.
After founder Martin Margiela stepped down in 2009, the creative direction of the house was further developed by various designers. Glenn Martens has been creative director since 2024.
In 2010, the house launched its first fragrance: "(untitled)", a green, slightly resinous composition. It was deliberately designed to be abstract and nameless—in keeping with the anonymous, conceptual attitude of the house.
"Up at Dawn" is available in 30 and 100 ml bottles.
