Nostalgia in a Bottle
For starters, have you seen what private equity vc brand zombification has been done to the C&E website? Horrifying. I'll be the first to disclaim that my bottle could be suffering from age but one spray lasted about 4 hrs with moderate projection. The opening is freesia-heavy and dries into a white floral bouquet. The dry down has notes of dried papaya and dried apricot with a hint of wood. Pleasant, inoffensive, and clean in a way that I associate with 90's white florals. It reminds me of the gardenia bath and body spray but much classier and dressier, a cheerful, nostalgic scent meant to be paired with a Lilly Pulitzer dress and a Vera Bradley wristlet.
Romanticized Daydream of a Cigar Lounge
This is a sweet, woody gourmand that skews "classically masculine". On me, it opens with a dry tobacco (not smoky), with chocolatey notes through the middle, and dries into brown sugar and vanilla scent. It had moderate-strong sillage and lasted 4+ hours. I didn't get much floral or coffee. This would be an excellent date or going out scent, but probably too overwhelming for the office. One of my friends had a penchant for hand-rolling cigarettes and he kept the materials in an old cigar box. This feels like a memory of sharing a cigarette outside of a basement concert- perfectly sweet but not too sweet.
Seal's a Kiss from a Rose
Opens up with almost no rose at all for me and instead a basil-pepper-clove cloud with some mineral elements. Eventually it dries into a refreshing but not overly spiced rose scent that lasts for around 3-4 hours with good projection. The rose itself is not necessarily too realistic or mind-blowing but it's the combination of other scents with the rose that makes it feel misty and mysterious. It reminds me of walking through a rose garden on an overcast, drizzly day.
Antique Store on a Rainy Day
I'm sure this scent hits for its target audience but that was not me. I can recognize the mastery and layering but it's not for me unfortunately! This perfume opens with an absolute blast of peat. Not one-dimensional, acrid peat but a smoky, furniture-varnish scent where the tea and woody notes almost overwhelm but give way to refreshing citrus right before becoming overwhelming. I don't get meat like some other comments but the smoke and wood are very present. I honestly don't know if I'd call it pleasant. After ~2hrs the peat dies down to a pleasant smoky hint with a sweet, warm osmanthus and wood drydown. It's the back of a curio cabinet or an old furniture workshop- it's dark and difficult and nuanced. I can't even suggest an occasion to wear this because I wouldn't, but this is a collector's scent for those who enjoy deep, smoky scents.
Healing Berry for the Inner Child
This scent definitely skews more sweet than photorealistic though it doesn't smell synthetic or cloying either. The perfume is a consistently sweet, dark berry scent throughout with tart and green notes popping out in the opening and drying down into a warmer scent with hints of a richness or butteriness. I'd say I don't get the mint note at all but the violet leaf and cereal notes come through along with all of the listed berries. This lasted about ~4-5 hours and the projection was excellent- not overwhelming but easy to catch sniffs of throughout the day. The most impressive part of the scent for me is that it captures richness without going "jammy" ie. smelling like cooked fruit instead of fresh fruit. (Nothing wrong with smelling jammy though) I wouldn't go so far as to call it a gourmand but it's a fruit scent with maybe some gourmand elements, which is what makes it feel nostalgic, like baked goods or fun bath products. For me, this scent brings up images of brightly colored, fruity, puffed cereal or pony-themed berry bubble bath but much more sophisticated and harmonious. 2000s nostalgia is having its moment and I can't wait for this scent to as well.
