The Curse of the Cloves
The opening is pure herbs and spice: heavy cloves and a basil with almost licorice undertones (reminiscent of Thai basil). I can’t pick up on any floral notes at all, let alone rose.

A few hours in and it’s a bit less punchy, a bit more earthy, and a hint woody…but I primarily smell cloves. Incredibly, there’s still not so much as a whiff of florals, and I’m quite disappointed given how much I was looking forward to a coastal rose. There *could* be a hint of geranium, but that might also just be me wanting it to be there. :(

After sampling several fragrances with a clove note, I’m coming to the conclusion that it is simply overwhelming to my nose, to the point where other notes never see the light of day.

This fragrance sounds beautiful and has die hard fans, but in the end I’m not one of them. If you also find cloves overpowering, unfortunately this might be one to steer clear from.

Note: I have not rated the scent because I think that would be unfair. While I didn’t enjoy this fragrance, the fault is in my nose and not the juice.

Metallic Rose
I ordered a sample of this when I read a review stating that this was a salty rose that didn’t smell like a classical rose. I can see where that is coming from, but the ‘classic’ rose is still shining pretty obviously through.

The beginning is very metallic in a way, and the basil is a breath of fresh air. I get the cloves as a nice (and necessary) contrast to the sweet and heady flower bouqet. But the initial smell from this is not exactly my cup of tea. But what is my cuppa is how this dries down. It gets salty, and dry, and something that almost reminds me of hay or dry grass (is that vetiver?) But at the same time, the fragrance never gets that dry or dusty feeling. It is airy when it is combined with the salty and metallic, and with the description from the brand in mind, I can picture the rocky coastline with wild roses growing along a jagged path.

It is unique, a sharp and cool rose, and oh how intense it is. But for me, not really liking rose scents I will have to say that it is better than most, but will sadly never get any real high remarks from me. Still, the sillage and longevity is great, so if you do like rose and/or want to mix it up a bit, this a great alternative!

Seal's a Kiss from a Rose
Opens up with almost no rose at all for me and instead a basil-pepper-clove cloud with some mineral elements. Eventually it dries into a refreshing but not overly spiced rose scent that lasts for around 3-4 hours with good projection. The rose itself is not necessarily too realistic or mind-blowing but it's the combination of other scents with the rose that makes it feel misty and mysterious. It reminds me of walking through a rose garden on an overcast, drizzly day.

Initially fresh and metallic spicy floral-green, a slightly salty spicy-floral Spring fragrance, on a smooth floral earthy-woody base.

Rose left to die on the coastline. The breeze brushes its petals, and you can’t tell if the salt you taste is from the sea or your own tears

Smells more like rose water, very strong realistic rose, some spices in background, overall very nice rose scent

Marine-like opening with rose & winter spices, then add iris, jasmine and basil. It's like smelling a rose on the coast. Very interesting

this is interesting. Minerals & basil in the opening with fresh rose, after 10 min you are in a floral & salty playground. Luminous, 8/10

One of the most beautiful light rose scents I know. It’s surprisingly well-received in my surroundings, even though many don’t like rose.

A peppery, slightly metallic/ozonic rose. I really like it, but I've smelled something like this before.

Balmoral's roses are lush and full with a lovely leather note at first. Bright? Nope, in my opinion, it leans more towards Taif/earthy dog rose, a bit sexy.
