Ginger
The joyful spirit of a luminous fragrance revealed by candied ginger, generous peony, and tender cedar

The opening is a blast of the sugary and spicy candied ginger note, along with the peony. To me, the candied ginger has a slight orange-like aroma to it. Fresh, sweet, and a similar floral aspect to the original Twilly.

Eau Ginger is a very clean fragrance, the peony is well balanced with the ginger note itself. I think it becomes more of a standard ginger smell versus the opening, where it has a sugary smell.

Closer to the ginger in Un Jardin Apres la Mousson, also by Hermes. Less of the overall spiciness, but some of that same aquatic-like freshness (not to the same extent either).

As it dries down, this one feels soapier. The cedar and peony really team up and the ginger, while it hangs around, is less of a factor overall.

That’s basically it for the rest of the way.

Clean, poised, but not boring
To start, I don't get much ginger from this perfume at all, but I don't own the original Twilly so maybe it's more ginger-y in comparison. The opening has a zingy, fresh note that reminds me of freshly cut green ginger but without any of the spice. The cedar is not very strong either, but it comes through after a few hours and keeps the dry down warm and grounded without becoming cloyingly floral. Overall, though some of the notes might suggest a spicier perfume, it's mostly fresh, clean, and floral.

This perfume is my go-to office scent: 3 sprays (collar and wrists) will last the better part of 8 hours but won't overwhelm those around you. It's well-blended and reserved enough to be classy and inoffensive but the decidedly floral and clean scent feels upbeat and youthful enough not to be stuffy. It feels like being the first one in the office before anyone else is there- laying out your notebook and pens perfectly, not a hair out of place. If you like "classical" French perfumes but want something that feels lighter or something different from the mainstays, this could be a good pick. I wear this in the winter and spring but it could absolutely work as a summer scent as well.

Memories of Japan... Weirdly enough
I think that this is genius. The kind of genius that's in the simplicity of things. I'm smelling this after half a year in Asia, and this transports me directly to my hotel corridor in Tokyo. If you've been to Japan you know the distinct smell of wood and tatami, combined with aromatics such as soya and ginger. They take the back seat in this prefume tough, layered behind a fresh and lovely pink floral note. This floral is so dear to me since I washed my clothes for a month only with this Japanese detergent that was so... Pink floral! Same as the detergent, those florals are fresh at first, yet clean and powdery in the drydown, in the best way possible. You could absurdly say that this fragrance somehow encapsulated my entire magical month in this wonderful country. When it dries down it warms up with this lovely gentle sweetness, before fading away into the skin... What a lovely experience!

A very conciliatory fragrance
You have to go to Frankfurt for work and your business trip falls on the week of the Frankfurt Book Fair. Your favourite hotel no longer costs 110€/night but 1000. Unfortunately, that doesn't go through, so you look around for another place to stay and you find it. The hotel doesn't have the number of stars you normally expect (after all, the company pays), but that's just the way it is sometimes in the fair city.

After a successful day, you check into the hotel in the evening. The room is small and rather spartanisch furnished. The bathroom is not as stylish and professionally lit as you usually know it, but it has underfloor heating and is top clean. After your hot shower, you snuggle into the snow-white, slightly cool bed and there - you relax almost instantly. That scent that the sheets give off is synonymous with cleanliness and freshness. But beyond that, it also resonates care and benevolence, like a hand stroking your forehead.

The next morning, after a quick breakfast, you make your way back. The scent of the sheets still clings to you - ah no, it's just the feeling it left you with

Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde in yellow summer dresses
Every now and then, when reading the reviews here, I always think I've just tested a different fragrance than the rest of the world. But especially when it comes to manufacturer samples, you can probably rule out that someone has deliberately put something else in there, so my skin chemistry (or olfactory bulb?) is probably playing tricks on me.

Twilly d'Hermès Eau Ginger starts me off with a truckload of lemons. Not ginger - lemons. Yellow, juicy, quite sweet. And unfortunately kind of bathroom-cleaner-lemony, not really nice. I like ginger scents, the ginger can also be a bit more biting/sharp, but here I'm just surrounded by sweet lemon/cleanser sorbet.

I'm already considering going to the sink when, luckily, the peony shows up and pulls the cart out of the bath. From the moment the floridity sets in, the fragrance is ambivalent and doesn't quite know whether it wants to remain sweet and floral or fresh and sugary and citrusy. A little like Jeckyll & Hyde, two souls live in his chest, oh no, that was Goethe...

The fragrance gradually becomes noticeably less sweet, becoming more and more girlishly floral and with a lot of imagination you could conjure up the aforementioned candied ginger from the residual sweetness + citrus, but my imagination is not enough for that - ginger smells different to me. It doesn't get really woody towards the end - on my skin!

"Eau" describes it quite well because after 90 minutes I have to search for the spray point like a drug-sniffing dog. The bottle is quite cute, reminiscent of Twiggy (coincidental pun? hardly) and the 60's and unfortunately doesn't really suit my taste - but it fits the fragrance, which is also "cute", girly, not quite grown up yet. I like the basic idea, but dislike the implementation (me!).

I wanted to like this, but it smells a lot like shampoo. Dandruff shampoo. Little too sharp for me.

The first few seconds are A Lot, but as soon as it calms down it’s as comforting and classy as you could possibly want, with a ginger zing.

On my skin, lasts a little more than 7 hours on my skin. Call it, about 7.5 hours. It’s pretty good, but nothing elite in its performance.
